Tank Ride Russian Imperial Stout
Rooftop Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Rooftop Brew Co’s owner and brewer Craig Christian is more qualified than most people to make a powerful Russian Imperial Stout; though he has no military experience, he once took a Russian tank on a booze-fueled joyride!
Rooftop’s char-filled flagship Tank Ride Russian Imperial Stout is inspired by a story from when Craig was a teacher in Russia in the late 90’s. He was invited over to an army General’s house to use the sauna, they got into the vodka, and not long after the General convinced Craig to drive around all eight people in a two seat tank! It was chaos -- he drove straight into several trees, crushing their trunks. The general took over the controls at this point, but Craig learned an important lesson: if you’re going to make something Russian, you better make it crazy, boozy, and fun.
Tank Ride lives up to this ethos. It lays out a blanket of belligerent char that rolls unimpeded across the palate’s landscape. A sturdy 8.5% ABV warms you to the core, so you can’t even feel the 20 below chill. Delightful notes of dark chocolate enrobes prunes and raisins and make for a full evening of freewheeling dark desert flavors.
Drink Tank Ride and you may feel as though you have the power to plow down trees! I wouldn’t go out and tackle that maple in your lawn though -- let’s leave that job to the professionals… and Craig.
