Reserve Series: Cultivateur
A Note on This Beer
Deschutes Brewery turns barrel-aging into oak-soaked magic -- legendary brews like Abyss and The Stoic are instant wax-dipped collector’s items whenever they’re released. In their barrel-aged Cultivateur Saison, just released for the first time since its acclaimed debut in 2014, they crank up the fruity amplitude by aging it for 11 months in oak barrels with Brett. We instantly fell in love with this juicy pear and apricot twist on a barrel-aged classic.
Wearing their star-studded flair on their sleeve, the Oregon brewery delivers a crisp, rustic flavor profile from a harmonious blend of old and new Saisons. These guys know how to achieve maximum fruitiness with just the right amount of funk -- by aging the ale in oak barrels with Brett, they coax potent flavors of Bartlett pear, sun-soaked peach, and the tropical tang of pineapple.
Aromas of freshly-cut grass, stone fruit, orange wedges, and a hint of hay rise from a golden orange pour. A splash of lemon peel washes over the sharp oak and crushed punch of peppercorns in an interplay of spicy and smooth. Like a fruity cocktail with a rustic twist, it finishes crisp and dry.
Deschutes rises beyond their flagship taplist to deliver barrel-aged Saison swagger in this limited release. The Reserve Series Cultivateur Saison has all the developed flavors and fruity chops to become an instant barrel-aged collectible.
