18 Mile Red Plum
Carolina Bauernhaus Ales
A Note on This Beer
We’ve been told again and again that our members use Carolina Bauernhaus Sours to impress and treat their friends because they offer something that’s incredibly unique and memorable. Whether you have an upcoming dinner party, are just trying to spruce up your cellar, or hey, you’ve just been waiting to see if we’d get our hands on today’s beer — Barrel Aged 18 Mile Red Plum is ready to give you some delicious memories.
18 Mile is a modern but incredibly sophisticated rendering of a Flanders Red that beats with the heart of South Carolina. Fans go ballistic for this beer, trekking all the way to the South for a sip of its luscious plummy tartness before jumping on Untappd to pad its growing 4.2 rating!
Using 500 plus pounds per barrel of Prunus Americana plums, the 2018 vintage is jammy and bright with cherry undertones and controlled balsamic tartness that will have your palate quivering for more. The brewery tells us the plum harvest was incredibly prolific yielding succulent fruit that blossomed when mixed with the 9-18 month barrel aged blend. Expect deep oaky layers and amplified fruity tannins from Petit Syrah, Cabernet, and Sangiovese wine barrels.
It’s important to note that given their commitment to only using local ingredients, Bauernhaus works in extremely small batches. So when you break out this bottle for friends and family, let them know just how generous you are to be sharing this highly limited vintage.
