A Note on This Beer
If I could, I’d go back to 2014 and keep myself from drinking the special bottle of The Abyss I had in my cellar that year. I’d warn myself not to pop open the glorious special-edition, so my 2022 self could taste the mellow complexity and rich, dark-chocolate depths it gains with age.
Knowing 2014 me, I’d just ignore myself and drink it all anyway — I simply can’t resist the multi-faceted flavors from blackstrap molasses, real vanilla, brewers licorice, and cherry bark in this jet-black pour.
That’s why I was so excited to get my hands on today’s 2014 vintage bottle from Deschutes. If you’re a serious Stout fan (or you know a Dark beer lover you’re trying to impress) you’ll want to check out this treat. We have fewer than 90 bottles left to share!
After 6 years in Deschutes’ carefully-controlled cellar, this brew is practically guaranteed to make any curmudgeon smile.
The flavors of roasty coffee and bakers chocolate have swirled together into a single, complex tapestry. The cocoa notes are bolder, the nuances of mocha a bit more subdued, and the 11% ABV has gone from smooth to completely undetectable.
