About This Beer
The False Idol team brewed Mr. Hyde with a rich Scotch Ale base brimming with bread and dried fruit notes. Then they aged it for 11 months in bourbon barrels for a smooth, sumptuous swig.
Tasting Notes
Pour this deep brown beauty and you’ll be greeted by nothing but the most enticing toffee and oak aromas. Take a sip, and you’ll find nothing but pleasantness as caramel nuances cascade over raisin and dark bread tones. Hints of brown sugar and crème anglaise carry on the silky, wood-kissed finish.

Tasted alongside Dr. Jekyll, the same beer but aged in rye.
This needs to be drunk fairly warm, as otherwise it has an excessively bitter tail. Once it warms, the bourbon barrel gives it lots of round, fruity flavors, cranberry most prominent along with the normal butterscotch of a Scotch ale. The mouthfeel is thin, and the finish is slightly astringent and smoky, with a noticeable alcohol note.
It's ok. I don't think this barrel works with this beer. The fruity flavor doesn't really mix with the Scotch ale flavors for me, and what I would have preferred would be something to deepen and darken things.
