A Note on This Beer

Vermonters LOVE their Cider.

In fact, they’ll swear up and down that you’ve never really tried Cider until you’ve tried one from Vermont. Then they’ll tell ya six ways to Sunday that you have to try one from Vermont’s own Shacksbury.

Because these guys don’t “just make Cider.” They craft an experience.

They use old-school techniques — like “méthode ancestrale” and “méthode champenoise” — and natural yeast to bottle condition their brews, giving each one a uniquely fruity, effervescently bubbly character.

And sometimes, when they really want to evoke that signature Vermont essence,  they age their Ciders in barrels sourced from local distilleries. Like with today’s The Vermonter.

It’s aged in Barr Hill Gin Barrels from local Caledonia Spirits and stuffed with 100% Vermont-grown apples from Sunrise Orchards.

The result is an earthy, herbaceous, fruity sipper dripping with notes of juniper, evergreen, and refreshing waves of juicy Honey Crisp apple. And it’s spiked with a 6% ABV worthy of cocktail hour indulgence.

So go ahead, grab a couple of cans and whisk your palate away to the beautiful, hilly countryside of Vermont. And if you’ve got any Cider-lovin’ pals, grab a few extra.

That way, you can show them what Vermont Cider is really all about.

Being from Washington state, I am less than thrilled about Vermont apples... Otherwise not bad. I'm just not a fan of the peat flavor.

Definitely a lot of gin flavor going on, super refreshing cider. Very unique! Likely only drinking one at a time

It tastes like a mix of cheap cider and cheap gin – the bottom-shelf, all-juniper kind. Or, it’s the apple version of cheap retsina.

Very strong smell and taste of juniper. First glass was off putting but after I adjusted to the flavor it was decent.

Interesting flavor profile, but the juniper made it a bit over dry on the finish

I didn’t love it and couldn’t put my finger on what flavor was ruining it for me. Turns out it was juniper.

Not my thing. Taste the apple but there’s a unpleasant flavor at the end that lingers

A clump of winter soil in the palm of your hand; Making pine needle tea from the fresh, cool mountain water of a nearby stream, rushing; The tart tang of this tonic gives way to sincere sediment and soft earth tones after the initial hit of sweetness washed and slightly diluted through cold river water. Serene stoicism is the both payment and reward for this purposeful potion. Sip.
