Backwoods Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
The beer Backwoods Brewing creates in Carson, WA is like family. And everybody’s favorite child, The Stumbler, is finally mature enough to get out and meet the world. This Russian Imperial Stout was aged for 30-months in Heaven Hills Bourbon Barrels and the brewers produced just 145 cases. Coming in at a 12% ABV, this Stout is something everyone in the Backwoods family is proud of.
Tom Waters, brewery co-founder and one-of-three brothers, told us the tale of their brewing legacy. He and his brothers learned the art of homebrewing with their dad in the Waters’ family garage, “back before microbrewing was even cool.” He laughed as he recalled how these first beers tasted just like you’d expect from three boys and their dad; but it was the experience they all loved.
Years later, the three Waters brothers took their dad’s passion and opened Backwoods Brewing. Their mom and dad are still “involved,” but mostly as professional beer-testers. As the original family brewer, Father Waters is the hardest critic. But The Stumbler? He LOVES.
With flavors of vanilla, dark chocolate, dried fruit, and, of course, Bourbon, Momma Waters says “finish the whole 22oz bottle, and you’ll be stumbling for sure!” (Apparently, after raising three rambunctious boys, it’s her favorite beer, too.)
The Stumbler is a limited-release beer that’s been an evolving family tradition for three years. The aging process for this RIS has taken two and a half years, and now these final barrels are all that remains. The Stumbler is ready to make the Waters family, and any beer lovers lucky enough to try it, proud.
