A Note on This Beer

Renaissance monks viewed brewing as an art, but Monkless founder Todd Clement has it down to a science. He’s got a PhD in Organic Chemistry!

In fact, if monks brewed like Clement, they’d probably be running around the bright tanks with beakers and goggles, crafting each batch with meticulous attention to detail — like today’s bold Belgian Abbey Ale.

With the spicy scent of cloves and the sweet taste of Belgian Candi Sugar, The FNG drapes the palate in creamy caramel and sticky toffee, balanced by ripe plums and a hint of pepper.

Believe it or not, The FNG began as a happy accident: one of Monkless’ new brewers milled the wrong grain into the mash for their classic Belgian Tripel. Luckily, Clement was able to rush in with his scientific expertise, saving the entire 10-bbl batch and turning it into something entirely new!

Due to its crazy popularity with locals, it’s now available in cans for the first time! But, not just any cans — each 4-pack sold at the brewery features a random selection of 10 different can designs, all displaying wicked military camouflage patterns to honor U.S. veterans. So, if you order a 6-pack of this limited edition brew on Tavour, you could get up to 6 different designs!

Right now, you won’t find this satisfying science experiment outside of Oregon. Ready to do a little taste testing of your own?

Monkless Belgian Ales won a Gold Medal, Mid-Size Brewpub of the Year, AND Mid-Size Brewpub Brewer of the Year at the 2020 GABF!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. Monkless Belgian Ales is certified independent by the Brewers Association

I have had this on tap before and bend brew fest and it was the best of the fest.. But super watered down light body and flat and the flavors were mute..I hope the second can is better?

Malty and hints of toffee. Slightly watery and thin, but not enough to detract from the flavor

Was really good at 1st (4.75 stars); the water it's brewed with is so pure tasting, similar to Ashville NC. But as it warms up and you drink more, the spices become overwhelming.

powerhouse of a Belgian style ale. dry and spicy up front, with the sweeter malt coming later. long finish. wish I had gotten more of this.

as on the mark as any American brewery has gotten in a while. not at all over-hopped or other pungent off flavors I’ve come to expect with the word/label Belgian on any American craft beer. it has the ethyl flavor profiles derived from candy sugar typical of a Trappist dubbels and is the right balance in the spectrum of dry to sweet. quite strong as can be expected with this style. bravo monkless!
