Thick and delicious! HEAVY chocolate, lots of coffee, and good kick from the ancho chilis. Not sure it was worth the price tag, but it’s damn tasty!
This beer is conflicting. Hides the alcohol very well but does it behind a punch of ancho Chiles that actually made me put it down for a minute. Chocolate is up front and tasty. Would be ideal for cold winter nights by a fire for sure. I could seriously write two or three paragraphs about all the different flavors this beer exudes. It’s very expensive for a 12 oz. bottle but you can tell the Brewers really cared when they made it. Worth the splurge if exotic stouts are your thing....just about finished it now and the abv just said hi and now I want another.
The vanilla, coconut, and cocoa nibs really come through and the flavors are well balanced. The ancho chili is subtle but just enough to add yet another layer of flavor. Not a whole lot of spice. One of my favorite aged beers yet. Would definitely buy again at $30 a bottle.
Chocolate!! Great mouthfeel, with a bit of heat on the finish. Glad was able to get this in Florida but this would be best on a cold night! The price point was high but worth it, I couldn’t drink more than 1 of these in a sitting anyway
Dark chocolate and coffee were the flavors I noticed right away, but when it warmed up the chili's really came out!
Definitely an excellent dessert beer! When you pour it the foam looks like there’s cocoa powder on top of it and it tastes almost like a really rich hot chocolate. You cannot taste the 15% ABV at all
Solid. Lingering heavy dose of coffee and chilis.
Peppers not overwhelming.
Perfect blend of coffee and coconut!
Amazing! As most of these waxed small format Anchorage stouts/BW's are...
Get the chocolate along with the coffee. Coffee seems to be the more dominant flavor and is not my jam.
Dope dope. Thick & deep, sweet but manages to avoid being syrupy. Love the balance of flavors.
Boozy. Peppery. Chocolate Milk.
Magic in a bottle
Chocolate milk. Chunks were not appealing though.
Best dark beer ever! Chocolate and coffee flavors are bold. The chili spice was a nice surprise adding to the flavor complexity. This is the smoothest 15% abv. Sips like a 5% abv.
I should have bought two. Delicious and look forward to getting more
This stout is great and proves to me anchorage stouts are above everyone else...well balanced between chocolate, vanilla and coffee and subtle hint of spice at the end
I get coffee and chocolate. And chili peppers. No coconut. Some vanilla. Otherwise delectable. Not worth $33 or is it bc I’m jammed as Juan would say.
Dark hot chocolate w/ a hint of vanilla and chili. Also present is coffee, which helps to balance out the chili. Delicious.
This brew is so thick like syrups, thats what allows it to be enjoyed at every level!!! Its like drinking cold liquid Ganache, it that is even a thing!!
Rich bold coffee complements the barrel!
This is truly something special 💞
Be careful with really dark beer guys
Delicious. But does anyone else wanna jump off a bridge trying to pry these open?
One of, if not the best beer I’ve ever had.
Love the chilis in this one. Straight chocolate and coffee with a heat on the end
Overwhelming chocolate and coffee flavor on the pallet followed by a subtle spice from the chilies. Absolutely delicious!
One of the best stouts I ever tasted. The pour was sloppy but that flavor was out of this world. Super well balanced. Sweet, with a small heat kick with a milkshake mouth feel and coffee to round it all out.
Delicious! Chocolate goodness
Decadent chocolate up front, with a nice spicy finish!
Absolutely delicious. The notes are incredibly distinct and have a wonderful evolution in your mouth starting with the deep chocolate flavors from the cocoa nibs, to a deep smooth coffee and wrapping up with the vanilla and as ancho chili’s.
Amazingly smooth and drinkable with fantastic chocolate flavors.
Thank you sir may I please have another
Not impressed! This my second Anchorage stout. No carbonation almost totally flat. Disappointing.
Thick chunky chocolatey spicy goodness
Super sweet and boozy
Very enjoyable. Would buy again.
Would be amazing a winter fire. Strong chocolate dessert coffee notes, I would hardly classify this as a “beer”.
Wow! Brownie batter, waves of chocolate and coffee
Strong notes of chocolate with hints of coconut and vanilla, tastes wise it's heavy on the chocolate while the ancho chilies kicks but not overpowering. Overall one hell of a desert stout.
Chocolatey, boozy, spicy, and not overbearing in any way. But honestly, you already know it’s great. I’m so glad I got more than one.
This was just too sweet and too chocolatey for me. I usually like stouts, but this was sweeter than the stouts I prefer. Impressively thick, heavy and DARK, but just not my style.
Near perfect beer
Lives up to its name. Amazing experience.
Chocolate fudge cake batter, with swirly bits of cocoa powder. Mmmmmm! This is a luxury dessert stout. Definitely my favorite so far among the Anchorage brewing line of beers. The packaging is so cool that I felt bad having to open the bottle and throw it out (though drinking this Definitely made up for the loss), I would love to design a label for this company on one of their releases!
Doomed was a heavy representation of Klatch coffee. Dark roast, super roasty... nearly gritty. This takes everything Doomed did right and puts a little spin on it with some heat. Love the pepper presence.
Soft liquid spicy fudge
Extremely smooth and the 15% is no where to be found. Very dangerous. A lot of cocoa on the nose with nice heat and coffee on the back end. Very thick and delicious.
Wonderful thick taste of sweet chocolate and pepper. It is, however, quite pricey for the amount you get
Super desserty, chocolatey, has coconut flakes in it.
This beer doesn’t get much love in comparison to anchorage’s other dark and boozy offerings, and I have no idea why. Best anchorage stout in a while for me. Pours jet black, ridiculous head retention, rich cocoa dominates palate, decadent viscous mouthfeel. Like a (lightly) salted chocolate chip cookie with tasteful bitterness and enough barrel to cut through the richness. Keep it coming!
Straight up chocolate milkshake
Tastes like a cup of rich hot chocolate with a pleasing chili heat finish. So much flavor! So delicious!
First sip was amazing. Mouth fills with the flavors of a thick cup of cocoa. Coffee flavor was very minimal and you can taste the lactose making it almost like a dark chocolate milkshake. This is a very thick beer. Best to be had slowly over time and enjoyed. It left a syrup like ring around my mouth.
Thick, chocolatey, and phenomenal!
Good beer on a tiring night
Amazing mocha flavor, chili pepper is well hidden but there
A smooth aromatic and enjoyable stout, the only negative for me was the inclusion of chilli peppers, I am not a fan of peppers. Otherwise a very nice stout.
Wow...just awesome. Rich and chocolate goodness. Had to split into two sessions.
Great as usual
Came out in huge chunks. Looked like a yeast mess. Felt obligated to chug it down at $33.00. Learned my Anchorage lesson!!
Chocolate coffee vanilla spice
Wouldn’t pour at first due to all the sludge build up. After getting it to pour and straining it twice the flavors were good.
One more special Imperial Stout brewed by Anchorage Brewing Co. full body a lot of coconut
Amazing, wish I had more
Not my favorite of the bunch but really good.
Sooo fudgy. Just a touch of heat. Had little chunky bits of chocolate or something floating around, but still very glad to buy the max
Insanely thick but incredibly delicious. Chocolate shines through with a bit of heat. Couldn’t and I guess shouldn’t drink much of this in one sitting but excellent sipper.
Dark chocolate and coffee is blended with coconut and milk sugar together to make this beer pretty sweet at first.. then you feel the slight heat. My lips burn but it’s sooo good
So close to 5. Very coffee forward when I first opened it. Sipped on it for around two hours and once it warmed up wit was like drinking liquid chocolate. Barrel character was nice. Wish there was a lot more heat though. Body was easily a 5/5
Smells of chocolate. Bathes the pallet in chocolate. You guessed it finishes with chocolate. Even the head is chocolate! Pours thick and black as usual. I have to give Anchorage props on using restraint on the sweet. A dark chocolate cacao lover’s dream.
Wish I had trusted my gut and gotten more. Sweet and chocolaty up front, spicy tingle on the back end. Wow. This is just amazing
Very chocolaty, can't tell it's so high in alcohol. Beautiful foam top that leaves a cocoa powder like smudge around the rim of the glass.
Very good. Poured thick, but globs of chocolate were a bit odd. Ancho was nice, not overpowering.
Definitely thick and chocolatey at both first smell and taste. Coffee and vanilla rise up and join the party. It finishes with a bit of heat from the chiles which blends well into the overall flavor palate.
Jesus Hesus Christ! It is definitely safe to say that this is one hell of a Stout. Aroma is that of a Colombian Coffee house and I could nose this Stout for days! Taste is Rich, Dark, Creamy and spectacular!
Sticky, sweet, and thick! The chocolate cake batter type flavor and consistency might not be for everyone. I enjoyed the ancho chili heat in the middle. To me it wasn’t overwhelming. Reviewed live at twitch.tv/BrewedforGaming
I cant stress to the beer community how awesome these wax dipped brews are from these guys! I've had plenty, and they never disappoint nor do they not surprise! This beer was so fudgy in flavor, and thick with substance. The chilies used I feel helped keep the small globs of pudding like beer suspended throughout which was like sipping on a chocolate lava lamp. Great overall taste w really no alcohol on the palate for a beer this strong. Masked by all that fudge flavor indeed. Another masterpiece by our northern Gods! 🍻
Took a bit to get it to pour as there was some sludge buildup. Very delicious and hides the booze. Only downside is the price
Anchorage is on point, beautiful mouth full Of chocolate, vanilla, an o chiles.
Delicious flavor, tastes like drinking chocolate fudge with a bit of coffee. Didn't notice much of the chili but tend to find that chili sweetens chocolate so with the nibs think it helped accent the chocolate flavor. Main complaint was the chunks of cacao I had to strain out to be able to drink it
Omg one of the best beers I’ve had by far! Hope to get more from Anchorage! Did not disappoint!
Too much spice, love anchorage brewing but this was overpowering in spice, took it to a beer share and had similar opinions
Amazing - Anchorage definitely delivered on this one
Amazing stout, chiles add to the flavor of the coffee.
Thick, chocolate, and some spice. Pretty tasty
Actual chunks of chocolate with a bit of heat. I waited a long time to get this!
Came out in actual chunks. There was a cork-sized mass of what looks like yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Tasted like drinking Hershey’s syrup straight. I’m all for big, boozy 15% beers but my particular experience with this one was quite unfortunate… especially for $33.
Couldn’t drink it. Couldn’t pour it. Very chunky. Was looking forward to drinking it. Bad!
I shared a bottle with my friends and we were all wishing for more! I would love to see it again!
Fudge for days
6/25/21 My first Anchorage imperial stout. Was expecting a lot for $33. Appearance is odd, but no chunks -- some large bubbles and, as others noted, a layer of cocoa on the head. Some residue clings to the snifter. However, this is a delicious big mole dessert stout. Now I know!
every adjunct on the label is present and very well integrated. just a touch of heat from the chili helps everything meld together.
seriously great, the chili is so mild, great spice and so much chocolate. so good, you probably will find a slug in it though
Chili is really mild, very pleased about that. Hot chocolate with a kick. Not a big fan of the barrel end notes but overall a great stout.
Anchorage continues to be one of the best in the biz at what they do. all All is their stouts/dark beers are thick, multiple layers of flavor, and depth for days. Any time I see Anchorage... I buy it
Thick, little to much peppers for my taste, but overall good stout
Nicely done; subtle chili, huge cocoa and coconut. The coconut fat is congealed a bit but not hating it.
Really - very good, delicious even. Would get 4.75 stars if there was a hint more creaminess in the texture. If you want a chocolate, vanilla, coffee stout - this is top of the line.
If you actually got one, you know
Chunks of stuff inside
Chunks of stuff inside
Delicious. Enough said.
This is the best bottle I have ever had! Shout out to Anchorage Brewing! I can taste every single flavor in this powerhouse of a Stout!
Had to shake it to get rid of chucks, guessing looking at tasting notes might have had a few bad batch, but was still good definitely perfect for cold night.
THICK DADDY!! All I can say is well done!
lots of hazelnut and chocolate
Bro, rich hot chocolate and coffee with some ancho chili heat. I like this drink, another!
This beer was WILD
Oh. Holy. Wow. That is SUPREMELY complex. The sweetness of the milk sugars combined with the cocoa nibs is the first thing to hit ya, followed by a mellow slickness from the chili’s. The coffee and vanilla are lost, TBH. Really good!
simply amazing…so unique
one of the best beers i ever had
ABC does it again
Dunno if there's different bottle pours being reported but I got mad chunks and mad coffee in here. Bottle got stuck pouring and everything. Straight coffee grains.
ancho chilies come out in the forefront, very easy to drink if you enjoy that. You cannot tell that this beer is this high in ABV
Next level motor oil. Smells like a dark chocolate bourbon truffle. Pours like brownie batter. Every adjunct is present and well accounted for. One of the better stouts I’ve ever had. An absolute oxymoron of balanced excess in all its magnificence!
dark chocolate, coffee, and chili…wow! an amazing stout!
nice chocolate pepper, but wasn’t as spicy as I would’ve liked for a mex style stout
Super Infected. Such a disappointment for such an expensive purchase. Was a sad opening.
I said Hott Damn! Those flavors beat the hell outta your taste buds, as advertised. 15% ABV, coulda fooled me. I will say, I store mine on their sides. When I opened it, it had a big mushy ball of whatever right at the top. Made it hard to come out. The chunks were pretty unappealing. If not for that, 4.25.
chocolate delight off the get go. decent amount of ancho after taste
