A Note on This Beer
I was approached by some serious hopheads at a recent Tavour party -- they were East Coast transplants. Thrilled by the tasty beers we were bringing from their stomping grounds, they flat out told me: “Now you gotta get the stuff Levity’s making in Pennsylvania -- ‘specially that Tenured, man.”
I listened -- I tried it. And boy were they right. Tenured Double IPA is a big hoppy booze slammer, loaded with an 9.3% ABV and 90 IBUs of pure citrus pine intensity. If this is the kind of beer that’s coming out of central Pennsylvania, look out West Coast hop brewers -- you’ve got some rivals in the Keystone State hot on your tail.
Inspired by the pine-grapefruit-booze tanks popularized on the Pacific Coast, Tenured boasts a cocktail of Columbus, Centennial, and Simcoe Hops meshed with an East Coast sense of balance. Like sweet and vibrant tangelo meshing with a creamy resin bite, this DIPA hides its boozy intentions behind a delightful bitter finish.
Brewing about an hour south of Punxsutawney, where the Groundhog sees his shadow, Levity is the city of Indiana’s first brewery in nearly 100 years! And they make up for lost time with loud, proud, and fun-to-drink IPAs like Tenured. I’m just glad I was at that party, and when you taste this brew, I bet you will be too.
