Raspberry Cabernet Barrel Aged J. Marie (Vintage 2020)
River North Brewery
A Note on This Beer
My friend Jacob is what you’d call a wine snob. Every time we get together at a party or a restaurant, he’s always the one walking around the table, filling people’s glasses, and saying, “Let it breathe before tasting.” Despite his nerdiness, I have to admit — he’s got impeccable taste.
There’s just one problem — the guy won’t touch a beer with a ten-foot pole.
Well, Jacob, I’ve found a beer that’ll impress you and everyone out there with elevated taste buds! Raspberry Cabernet Barrel Aged J. Marie is an exquisite marriage of beer and wine, and it comes from the farmhouse experts at River North.
The brewers took J. Marie, one of their OG Imperial Saisons and a beloved fan favorite, and aged it for six months in cabernet sauvignon barrels. Then, they added 15 lbs per barrel of tart raspberries. Each taste is a burst of juicy berries and robust oak, with a whisper of red wine on the finish.
Locals love the “mountains of fresh raspberry” in this clean, crisp Saison. The lucky few who’ve gotten a taste are rating it 4.21 on Untappd!
So, the next time you break out the cheese board and the crudité, try passing on the Pinot and pouring a glass of this delicious brew instead!

Umm this is perfection
Can taste the raspberry and the barrel.
Wasn’t a huge fan. A bit vinegary. Meh
Tastes great now, wonder if it will age well at all? Setting one aside for a later date
Good but trying to do too much at once. The tannins are odd in a beer. I would have gone for white wine barrel myself. Still gonna enjoy it but a bit underwhelmed.
Smells just like fresh raspberries and tastes like a sweet Cabernet. Hands down my new favorite beer of all time.
I'm impressed. I feel as if I'm drinking a good wine. Now I'm craving a charcuterie board.
