A Note on This Beer
Sometimes, it’s easier to describe what something ISN’T than what it IS — and today’s Fruited Ale from Urban Artifact isn’t like anything I’ve tasted before.
- Pie Bird isn’t a smoothie, but the 2,800 lbs of boysenberries per batch give a full body and plump, fruity mouthfeel. It’s creamy and juicy — what fan @Beerchitect calls “alcoholic jam!”
- It’s not a wine, but it pours the same deep, dark purple as a rich Syrah. And when all the sweet, ripe notes of blackberry, plum, black currant, and raspberry fade, every sip ends with a hint of acidity, a note of warming spice, and a dry, red wine-like finish.
- It’s not a slice of seasonal fruit tart, but packs all the flavor of one! Its jammy-sweet flavor is laced with creamy vanilla, reminiscent of a fresh-out-of-the-oven treat. Its balance of sweetness and sharp zing makes this brew one I could sip endlessly — were it not for its 10% ABV, that is!
Here’s something that Pie Bird is: an absolute delight.
