According to Doug “there’s Prichard’s rum barrels, and then there’s everybody else’s rum barrels.” The difference? Pritchard’s distillery uses brand new barrels for their rum! (Pretty much everyone else uses ex-bourbon barrels.) And they only use them once, so all the oak and vanilla character of the wood went straight into this Barleywine. Then Doug topped it off with a dose of vanilla to really amp up the flavors.
