Black Project Spontaneous & Wild Ales
A Note on This Beer
I’ve always been a fan of the morning, even as a kid! At 7 AM, sharp — all wrapped up in my favorite pair of football jammies — I’d bound down the stairs for breakfast cereal and cartoons.
The best part of it all: the freshly washed, plump plum my mom would plop in my palm before I hopped aboard the school bus. I’d joyfully indulge in bite after drippy bite, blissfully ignorant of the sticky juices that swept down my chin.
Sippin’ on today’s NIMROD Sour Ale from Black Project, I feel the same sense of carefree glee.
That’s because the brewers stuffed this Sour Ale with “insane amounts” of real plums and sweet cherries, for layers of delightfully nostalgic fruit flavor. One succulent swig after another, swells of sweet stone fruit flirt with swirls of lush red cherries. With its dry mouthfeel and slightly sour bite, it’s almost impossible to resist another sip!
Even though I no longer own a pair of football jammies (tragic), so long as there’s a can of NIMROD in my fridge, I know it’s going to be an excellent day.
*The Denver Post named Black Project the Editors Pick for Colorado Brewery of the Year!

Excellent flavor and a nice balance of tart and funk
It has a surprisingly delicate flavor that is balanced really well with the sourness. The plum and cherry are subtle, but overall it’s a really nice flavor.
My wife is drunk and loves this sour
The sour plum really adds a body for that sweet cherry to latch onto
So good it just has an otherworldly flavor
Cherry sour goodness
Love the subtle plum and depth of this sour
Great beer! It’s spring!
Love anything black project. Such a great brewery
Sour but a little sweet. Flavors are well represented. Good beer
Kind of reminded me of a cherry soda
Good sour but tasted like all the other ones.
Solid sour. Very tart
Not as strong on the cherry as I had hoped. It is a decent sour. More tart cherry than sweet cherry.
Tasted okay. Glad I got the pack of them
Subtle plum and cherry flavor with some faint sourness.
Very smooth berry flavors
Fruity and sour, but not overwhelmingly so. The plum flavor is a nice touch
Solid sour that starts with a focused punch and quickly spreads out to a wide body and tingly aftertaste
Black Project has been a favorite for me since the beginning. This particular beer had a pleasant sourness and that was about all. The beer poured completely flat and had a stale musty aroma and the fruit wasn’t much there. I think mine had a packaging flaw.
Really tasty treat
Very tart and tasty!
sour goodness lots of undernotes at the end
Party in my mouth
