A Note on This Beer
If anyone knows about warming up when the temperatures drop, it’s the hardy Chicago locals that flock to Temperance Beer Company.
So, we took a page from their book, and loaded up on some special seasonal sippers from this GABF award-winning brewery! This time around, we snagged a stash of 2020 releases from their coveted Might Meets Right Barrel-Aged Stout series.
Unless you brave the cold weather for a trip to the Great Lakes (and outside of a limited distribution in Colorado) the only way to taste these belly-warming brews is right here. I recommend putting on your favorite slippers, snuggling up by the fireplace, and claiming your cans now!
Here are the oaky delicacies you have to look forward to, aged for 11 months in High West Bourbon Barrels:
Peppermint Hot Cocoa, 14.3% ABV
After crafting only two kegs of this peppermint, chocolate, marshmallow, and vanilla-stuffed variant last year, the people demanded more — just read their Instagram comments!
So, the brewers granted their dark-beer wishes! This 2020 batch tastes just like the tall glass of the candy-cane-laced hot cocoa I’d enjoy at the ski lodge as a kid.
Those nostalgic flavors blend seamlessly into the notes of dried figs, new leather, and gooey caramel from the barrel-aged base. It’s a chocolatey dreamscape that’s warm as a freshly built fire and soft as a brand-new scarf!
Bramble, 14% ABV
Imagine indulging in decadently rich, chocolate-covered blackberries and raspberries, in between sips of top-shelf bourbon. Are you at a classy winter soirée? Nope, you’re sipping on the Might Meets Right Bramble (2020)!
The brewers jammed this batch full of ripe blackberry and raspberry purées for pops of bright fruit flavors followed by swells of decadent dark chocolate from the Stout base. It’s reminiscent of an expertly-crafted chocolate, raspberry, espresso martini from a luxury resort!
¡LA SORPRESA!, 14% ABV
Temperance released this riff on Mexican hot chocolate last year, and as expected, the locals went nuts over it! We even managed to snag a few cans for you dessert-fiends back in 2019. And, also as expected, you snatched up the whole stash, lickity-split!
The brewers packed this batch with heaps of roasted cacao nibs, rich espresso powder, succulent vanilla, and toasted ceylon cinnamon, along with ancho, New Mexico, and dried arbol chiles. It tastes like an expertly baked chocolate lava-cake full of chili-infused fondue, topped with a heaping scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dusting of cinnamon.
High West, 14% ABV
If you’re looking for a distraction-free example of Temperance’s barrel-aging expertise, this is the can for you. The brewers left adjuncts out of this particular variant, so craft fans can taste the complexity developed from close to a year spent in High West Bourbon Barrels.
With each thick sip, swirls of sweet oak waltz alongside delicate notes of dried dates and cherries. It’s pure and unadulterated; just right for the barrel-aged beer connoisseur.
So, no matter how cold the weather, these cans of Barrel-Aged goodness are sure to warm you up from your tongue to your toes! Just be careful not to get too cozy before hitting the ‘Get it’ button — we only have 40 cases to share until next year!
With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!
