A Note on This Beer
There aren’t many brewers who would create a beer in honor of their mother and then name it something scary like Matricide. But that’s exactly the kind of thing we’ve come to expect from Billy Powell, the heavy metal-obsessed founder of Nightmare Brewing.
Apparently Billy’s mom didn’t mind a bit — she even showed up to help him brew the first batch of this 15.1% ABV Imperial Stout! Probably because he created the recipe as an homage to her favorite candy: the Almond Joy.
To replicate the candy bar, Billy and his mom conditioned their gigantic Stout on Ecuadorian cacao, toasted coconut, and roasted almonds for over 6 weeks. It tastes like a gourmet version of an Almond Joy you’d get from an upscale chocolatier, with an added Amaretto liqueur-like nuttiness.
So, grab a couple of cans of this desserty booze-bomb and treat your sweet tooth to a little decadence. But, if you share one with your mom, maybe pour it into a pint glass first so she doesn’t have to look at the scary label.
