A Note on This Beer
Tavour members like you take great pride in drinking the best of craft beer. When you rate beers, you're sincere with your opinions, because you know -- good beer matters! Today's Barrel-aged Sour is among the highest rated on Tavour at 4.35: Avery Brewing Co's Lunctis Viribus.
Avery Brewing has one of the most respected and accomplished barrel aging programs in the world which gives them free reign to make the most experimental and innovative oak-aged Sours.
Tequila and Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels and GABF-winning skills come together in their latest Barrel Aged Series release, the Lunctis Viribus Sour Ale.
Moving creatively and nimbly, Avery perfectly combines the red fruit flavors of the wine and the quenching snap of a fine barrel-aged Tequila. Dark plums meet the lime-like smack of a sour base and the slight salt and tang of a top shelf Resposado. Aromas of tart cherries hint at a Flanders Red Style base. Hints of oaky caramel sweetness and jammy stonefruit balance the acidity to form a semi-sweet semi-sour real tangy fruit juiciness. Brisk carbonation drives the intricately fruity cocktail home.
Limited to only 1124 cases, Lunctis is as rare as any highly experimental brew from breweries that solely focus on small batch barrel aged Sours. And with the barrel experts of Avery at the wheel, the results are much more polished than they’d likely be in anyone else’s hands.
