A Note on This Beer
Get in my belly, guavas! You tart and juicy, tropical little buggers, I can’t get enough of your strawberry and pear flavors infused with hints of dankness. Just as I was thinking I should move to the jungle, Chicago’s Une Année saves the day with their Le Seul XIII Guava.
I’m not really sure what Le Seul XIII means, but in terms of ratings, this Guava nectar-driven brew translates into a 4.2 on Untappd and a 4.14 on BeerAdvocate. No surprise coming from Une Année, whose name immediately comes to mind alongside fellow Sour heavy hitters like de Garde and Cascade.
To create the guava-est guava brew, Une Année injects their Wild Ale base with real guava puree. This mingles with their house culture of Brett, Lacto, and Sacc yeasts to magnify the fruity, funky character of guava. The mouthfeel is downright nectarous, then quickly ascends into the Sour-sphere with an assertive pucker. The finish is rustic, like guava jam spread over a thick slice of cornbread.
Previous incarnations of Une Année’s fruit-infused Le Seul series average well over 4+ scores on Tavour. Members have spoken, showing their love for the stupidly fruity sourness of Une Année. Welcome to the jungle, my friends -- things are about to get real guava-rama up in here.
