A Note on This Beer
A real craft fan should know how to ask for a beer in every language!
So, in honor of today’s Japan-inspired Kankitsu Lager, here are some useful Japanese phrases:
- “I’m thirsty” = “Nodo ga kawaita.”
- “Beer, please” = “Biiru kudasai.”
- “Where’s the beer?” = “Biiru wa doko desu ka?”
And, here’s a bonus for ya — the brewers at Elder Pine tell me that “Kankitsu” is Japanese for “citrus.”
These guys are one of USA Today’s Best New Breweries of 2020, so I trust ‘em to do their homework. Plus, Kankitsu refreshes the palate with bright bursts of lemon-lime citrus in every sip!
Using a rice Lager base, the cunning Elder Pine team also infused this limited brew with real green tea, lemongrass, and lime for crisp flavors that invigorate as much as they please the palate. Dry-hopping with Motueka rounds out this 5.5% ABV Lager with just a nip of hop bitterness.
You don’t actually need to know Japanese to enjoy this brew’s Far East flavors. But, if you want to impress everyone’s socks off, just repeat the phrases you’ve learned here, pour Kankitsu into a glass for your next Zoom hangout, and cheers away.
As they say in Japan, “kanpai!”
