A Note on This Beer
Somebody find me a paper bag to breathe into, because I’m so stoked I’m about to hyperventilate.
The thing that’s got me so excited is today’s totally unpronounceable, 4.15 UT-rated Hr. Frederiksen Væsel Brunch Barrel-Aged Stout. Dark Beer fans in Europe have been loving this thick-bodied treat for years, and now you’ve got a rare chance to join them stateside.
Don’t worry about pronouncing the name. Here’s what you need to know:
- This is a collaboration between two of Denmark’s most celebrated craft breweries. Mikkeller is the 3x Danish Brewery of the Year and is one of the most revered breweries in Europe. Amager Bryghus is so respected by U.S. brewers that they’ve collaborated with powerhouses like Three Floyds, Jester King, and Trillium.
- It’s a 50/50 blend of two of Europe’s most beloved Stouts. Hr. Frederiksen from Amager has a 4.09 BA-rating. Mikkeller’s Beer Geek Brunch Weasel has an eye-popping 4.32! Together, they make the 10.7% ABV Hr. Frederiksen Væsel Brunch.
- Aging in Bourbon Barrels gives this bottle mind-boggling depths of flavor. Take a sip and dark toffee, burnt caramel, dried stone fruits, and spiced pecan notes tip-toe across the palate. Then the barrel flavors take over with warming whiskey, earthy oak, and creamy vanilla sweetness. The mouthfeel is so rich and thick you can almost chew it.
So yeah, of course I’m hopping up and down with excitement! Getting ahold of these coveted bottles just makes me so giddy. Grab yourself a bottle, and when it shows up at your door you’ll find yourself hopping around your living room with a grin on your face, too.
