A Note on This Beer
How much fruit fits in a Midwest Fruit Tart before the Fruit Tart out-fruits all other Tarts?
Urban Artifact is seeking to answer this tongue twisting question with their latest Fruited Sour, Hobnail. This brew touts more than 4 million wild Canadian blueberries per 30 barrel batch! If, like me, you’re having trouble picturing 4 million blueberries, that’s like stuffing 424 blueberries into each 12 oz can of this Sour!
What makes this even more impressive is that these aren’t blueberries you could buy at the store. The brewers use wild blueberries — they grow on low bushes across fields and rocky hills, and, because of the terrain and their short stature, can often only be picked by hand.
It must have taken a mind-boggling amount of time and effort to gather up all the berries Urban Artifact used in this brew!
All that work and care was seriously worth it. This Midwest Tart showcases the delectable tang and rich flavor of these berries. The elevated level of tannins in wild blueberries also gives a delicate wine-like finish that truly sophisticated Sour drinkers can appreciate.
Be warned, one sip will have you asking, “how many cans can I get in my hands while my hands can still get cans??”

I really enjoyed this sour. Very boozy but you truly couldn’t tell time in the taste. Happy I ordered 2;)
Missing something. Boozy but lacked depth
It's a good fruit sour, but it did lack complexity & depth.
Lacking something, hard to put into words. Good fruit flavor but could do with more
Super tart. Good fruit notes
It looks and tastes more like a sparkling red wine than a beer. Coming from someone who loves sours this just missed the mark for me.
It tastes more like wine
Strong but not much going on
Strong but definitely getting wine like vibes from this one.
Definitely kinda like wine. Not really my jam.
Sweet sour, very juicy and jammy
Great blueberry taste!
Tart & sweet. Delicious!
This was okay. I definitely got blueberry from it.
Not that boozy. Blueberry
lots of yummy blueberry flavor. appreciate the effort of picking all the wild canadian blueberries. crazy ABV too.
Hid the alcohol well but the blueberry flavor was very faint, disappointed a little bit
We really liked this one. Not too tart at all. The blueberry flavor was on point! Very good - excited to try the strawberry one!
A boozy tart beer, didn’t seem like it had as much berry flavor as I thought it would. Seems overhyped.
Flat and awful. Drain pour for me.
Beer wine? Not Barleywine. It’s like a decent Merlot or Shiraz made from blueberries instead of grapes. It literally has the flavor profile of a full bodied red wine. I added some pure blue agave to make it taste like a fruited sour.
This sour tastes like a boozy blueberry juice, think wine but made from blueberries! I was expecting something a little extra but with over 400 blueberries in this one can I’m not surprised it comes out like a glass of wine. This is perfect for a gathering of wine-os, but for the avid beer drinker this may not fit the bill taste wise for what you want in your fridge. The 10% in it says “chug me” but the taste of this can says “put me in a wine glass twirl then sip” overall good but not perfect
Wife says: Great beer to drink on a sunny patio, great flavor and refreshing. My take: It sorta smells like wine, but when you take a drink it’s anything but. With this high of an ABV you’d think it would be obvious, but this beer goes down smooth with a wonderful blueberry flavor.
Had a bit of a wine taste. Lacking mouth feel you want in a fruited sour
Very much enjoyed this, However I would not say it tastes much like a sour. But loved it and the kick it gives at 10% was fantastic, can have several.
Liked the smoothness wasn't overly boozy but a little too tangy for me without much other flavor but it still was tasty and interesting
Tavour did not include these in my shipment even though I ordered 4 of them. They also had to issue me a refund on 4 Drekker fruit beers which I had purchased but they were unable to send me. I like Tavour but if they mess up another one of my orders this badly I’ll delete the app.
It delivered what was promised, I'm just a wimp 😆. Seriously though, it is tart, fruity, not too sweet, and you can't tell it's 10%. All in all, I'd drink it again. But it's not my 100% favorite, because that tartness was kicking my behind.
Tart and boozy with a wine-like flavor (like drinking a red wine). Not much blueberry. Disappointing.
It was ok, but it was a bit of a letdown.
Tasty overall but surprisingly mellow and blueberries not as forward as I’d hoped
Ordered from Tavour in a 12 ounce can, chilled and poured into a pint glass. Look: Deep, red grape color with no head, although you can see carbonation along the edges of the glass. Smell: Light earthy berry up front, blueberry and sour smelling grapes. Taste: Sour berry up front, sour grapes almost like wine, earthy blueberry that hangs with some light malt after taste. The booze is present but not overpowering. Feel: Medium to full feel, light tickle of carbonation, tannins with some drying like a watered down wine). Overall it is a strange kettle sour type of beer. This is more like watered down wine, not a great beer. Cheers!
Blueberry forward but not sweet
Sour upfront with blueberry finish. Solid beer but didn’t seem like a 10% abv.
Pretty one dimensional. Not very sour
pretty tart. but as blueberryish as I’d like.
I felt it was very easy drinking but no way felt like a 10%. But it was missing something
First time I tried a sour, thought I was drinking wine. Not impressed.
Tart and does not drink like a 10%
It’s hard to believe this is 10 percent. It’s good and refreshing but it’s very subtle. Doesn’t taste like a whole lot to me. It’s Not even that sour.
fruity and can’t believe it’s at 10% beer. wish I had another.
party in my mouth
has the sour but it's not quite what you see in my favorites. it's good but their are better
Different, in a good way. Nice change of pace.
Fruity and tart but no depth beyond the initial flavor.
