A Note on This Beer

Untappd user @Bryan H. echoes what so many other craft fans have been saying for years:

“I wish I could get these [Soquel Fermentation] Project brews more often!”

Hey, we want more too! Every Soquel Fermentation Project brew is crafted with precision that takes a year or longer. Nestled in California’s Santa Cruz mountains, the brewery sources their ingredients locally for flavors that capture the nature surrounding them.

Just look at today’s Golden Sour #11. To make this bright maroon Barrel-Aged Fruited Sour, the brewers start with a blend of beers aged 1 and 3 years in neutral oak barrels. Then, they condition the brew on blueberries and red currants. The result is a quencher that dances between tart and natural berry sweetness, and finishes with a mild earthy funk.

Now’s the time to stock up, because the Soquel crew’s dedication to their craft also means that they only brew in tiny batches (they also don’t have a taproom). Normally, only Northern California craft fans even get a shot at a taste!

Has a very nice Classic sour taste that takes you back to trying your first sour. It has that beautiful yet slightly harsh throat hit and then the smooth wash down afterwards. The flavor profile on this brew was phenomenal and I regret only getting a single can to try out. I will be getting a 4 pack of the #12s when they drop.

This was terrible! Honestly possibly one of the worst beers I've ever opened. Tasted like what I imagine pi** tastes like.

This is a pretty good sour. I was hoping for a bit more of the sweet fruit notes to come through, as this is quite sour. But, overall, it's good flavor.

Good barrel aged sour, has the winey oak notes you want and a tart fruity finish

Quintessential old school sour. Tart and acidic, with a slight funk to follow. With all the crazy things going on with sours right now, it was really nice to sip on one that reminded me of what got me into them.
