About This Beer
For Friend Blend #1, the North Carolina crew teamed up with fellow Spon specialists at Pen Druid. The duo started with one of Fonta Flora’s Appalachian Lambic-style, Spontaneously Fermented Ales, this one brewed with estate grown rye straw. Then they mixed it with some of Pen Druid’s spontaneously fermented Tripel brewed with cardamom pods and aged in Virginia brandy barrels.
Tasting Notes
We haven’t had the pleasure of trying this one yet, no one has, but we’re anticipating bright, tangy flavors of lemon zest tempered by hints of earthy funk, with hints of brioche and caramel peaking throughout. Look for aromas of wildflowers and freshly cut hay glittering around the periphery as dried stone fruit and sweet wine notes permeate every effervescent sip.
