A Note on This Beer

I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a breakfast joint and not ordered the French toast. I can’t help it — the moment I get a whiff of that cinnamon-y, maple-drenched goodness, the cravings set in, and they are INTENSE.

Which is why I always try to grab a fresh batch of Hubbard’s Cave’s ultra-decadent French Toast Imperial Stout the moment it comes off the stove, er, canning line. Just one sip of this breakfast-flavored boozebomb is enough to put my cravings at ease!

No wonder, too. It’s fermented on the same stuff that makes real French toast so scrumptious: cinnamon, maple syrup, vanilla, and lactose!

Its invigorating roasty coffee undertones make this brew so smooth and drinkable, I can’t help but dive back in until not a drop remains. Thick waves of sticky maple syrup scents spill out enticingly from the start, making way for rich cinnamon and hazelnut notes that dance on the palate. Vanilla latte-like silkiness lingers on the finish, like a dollop of whipped cream that melted all over my favorite breakfast.

If treats like this left Illinois more often, I probably wouldn’t bother loading up on French toast at restaurants. After all, the bread version doesn’t come wrapped in a 12% ABV!

Really fantastic dessert stout. Smacks you in the face with boozy cinnamon French toast. I'd definitely get this again.

This is 100% french toast in the after taste. It lingers for awhile and is very nice. Unfortunately while drinking it, I get very harsh whisky and banana flavors that ruin the drinking experience for me. I wish it led with the same french toast flavors I get after and that it was a bit more mild. Definitely will get you tipsy with its high alcohol content.

Hubbard’s Cave does it again. Not to sweet, good balance, super finish. Cinnamon is prominent with maple taking a slight back seat. ABV is well proportioned showing it’s teeth just enough. Good stuff.

Super dark, maple syrup up front. I get the rest of the spices after. It gets better as it warms up just slightly in the glass. Just wish it was a bit more carbonated.

Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Maple and vanilla on the nose. The cinnamon comes through in the taste. Delicious!
