A Note on This Beer

Back in 2008, Citra Hops exploded onto the craft scene like a lime-packed, grapefruit-soaked, orange-kissed rocket!

Even now, Citra’s popularity is still climbing. Brewers love it because, as Kegerator.com says, “It’s the most citrusy aroma Hop in the world of beer.”

And I know a few citrusy brew lovers on Tavour who are going to flip when they see today’s BlackStack Brewing hopbomb. It packs three different harvests of Citra Hops!

Appropriately, it’s called Free Citra. Early reviewers are giving this 10% ABV dream a whopping 4.46 on UT, and tangy juice lovers are falling head over heels:

An IPA without the overpowering floral sense. The Citra hope are excellent in this brew, allowing for easy drinkability with a good mouth feel. Would absolutely buy again.

My guess it's not the beers fault. But it's malty with very little hop flavor. It spent nearly a week in Capital Express 90+ degree warehouse only 2 hrs away before they finally delivered it. The heat killed these IPAs

Found little hop flavor with overwhelming alcohol. Could have been the hot week during the delivery that altered the hop flavor, but this one I personally could not enjoy

Daily Corona battle. Triple citra, my fave. Orange juicy, some TIPA sweetness, but balanced with some piney hop oil. Hides the ABV until a bit in the lingering finish.

Well, Brewcrew, I can’t say that I have ever tried a Triple New England IPA, but when I found this one on Tavour, I had to get it! NEIPAs have become one of my favorite beer styles these last two and a half years on mBR. Some of my favorites have been the NEIPAs - Mirror Universe, M-43, and recently Edge of Mysteries. I have a feeling this is going to rank up there in my top five of NEIPAs. BlackStack pulls no punches with brewing this beer. Here is the description from Untappd: A natural continuation of our fog fetishist tendencies. 100% unadulterated Citra mayhem. Hefty loads of our Hand-Selected Citra & Citra Cryo from this past harvest and our favorite lot of Citra from yesteryear. I wondered what makes a Triple NEIPA, and the only thing I can say is that I love this “style” even if it is made up. Essentially you triple hop the NEIPA and ramp up the process of a normal NEIPA. I love this beer! The taste is super tropical, citrus flavor, and delicious. Delightful floral and hop flavors throughout this beer. The beer itself looks like a glass of orange juice.
