pFriem Family Brewers
A Note on This Beer
We snuck into pFriem Family Brewers’ cellar to snag some of their prized goods – and we got our hands on their Flanders-Style Blonde Ale. Aged for 18 months in Pinot Noir barrels and cellared for almost 9 months, it’s developed even more lush stonefruit, tangy lemon, and funk since we last tried it… and more accolades along the way.
With a medal at the North American Beer Awards anda 4.08 on Untappd, this Flanders Blonde is catching the eye of both Wild Ale and Belgian fans. Unlike the typical dark sour cherry notes of a Flanders Red -- a style highly regarded for its barrel-aged tradition -- this Flanders Blonde has a bright hay-colored body and a mellow tanginess from the wine barrels and Brettanomyces, giving it juicy Farmhouse-like flavors.
Bright, oaky barnyard notes float from a golden haze. Honey pear juice and Granny Smith apples fill the palate, while lemon zest and yellow peaches balance with Pilsner malts for a crisp mouthfeel. Pinot Noir from the barrels deliver a slight earthiness along with a touch of wild strawberries. Dusty lemon funkiness gives this boozy 7.1% ABV brew a tangy zip in the finish.
With Flanders Blonde, pFriem uses their Belgian expertise to put a new spin on a traditional style – as a result, they’ve crafted a Belgian equivalent to bright, sparkling white wine. Featured on Draft Magazine’s “Best Beers We Tasted This Week” back in May, Flanders Blonde has developed even more wild and fruity essence since then – taste the magic of pFriem’s cellared collection!
