Father of All Tsunamis
Pelican Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Pelican’s brewmaster Darron Welch says this year’s Father of All Tsunamis vintage “is exceptionally rich with cocoa-like dark chocolate flavors” compared to previous releases.
Which blows my mind. Father of All Tsunamis nabbed six medals* from international beer competitions in just three years! Oregonian craft fiends drool over its dark, candied decadence on Untappd! Can this barrel-aged beauty get any richer?
Sure enough, one sip of the 11.2% ABV chocolatey Imperial Stout has me nodding along with Darron and all his UT fans who declare it “the best Pelican beer” yet.
The brewers didn’t change the recipe, but it tastes like it’s been fine-tuned. It’s packed to the brim with rich mocha, layered with spicy rye whiskey barrel notes. Gentler waves of vanilla and caramel smooth out the Tsunami for a dry oak ‘n leather finish.
You’re gonna want to let this one linger on the tongue to really taste its complexity.
But don’t wait to get it! Pelican only bottles enough of each year’s Father of All Tsunamis for their three small, coastal Oregon taprooms. It doesn’t go to stores!
Now, Pelican set aside 40 cases for Tavour members in February, but they went so fast that we had to persuade them to part with more! They could only spare 30 cases this go-around, so if there ever was a time to move quickly for a limited beer, it's now.
