A Note on This Beer
California Common Lagers like Anchor Steam are rising in popularity because they deliver the refreshment of crisp Lagers with much deeper, honey-like flavors. Now that Anchor Steam sold out to the macro dark side (sad!), we were stoked to find Santa Clara Valley Brewing’s smooth and toasty Do You Know the Way... California Common Lager.
Made in the Bay Area with extra layers of toastiness from local CA grown malt, Do You Know is like going back in time and tasting a California Common in a San Francisco tavern in the 1800’s.
This brew gains extra depth from the pre-industrial technique of floor malting, a time intensive process that extracts the nutty, honeyed depths of the grains.
A glowing translucent amber color shows that this brew has the full flavor to blow away all Macro Lagers. Toasty and satisfying honey bread flavors intersect with fragrant floral hops that recall the Sierra Nevadas in spring. A hint of apples comes from the dry crisp slap of California Common style yeast, giving it a signature kind of refreshment.
Move over Anchor Steam, there’s a new Lager boat in town. Take a sip and you’ll find the richness of original American frontier beers made over 100 years ago!
