A Note on This Beer
It’s elementary, my dear craft fan — today’s 16.8% ABV English Ale is so authentic, even Sherlock Holmes would have called it “jolly good!”
Den Haag pours a rich, dark mahogany, tempting the nose with scents of bittersweet chocolate, roasted marshmallow, and charred white oak.
As you sip, the beer’s velvety body delights the palate with notes of brown sugar, figs, sticky toffee, and vanilla. Whispers of molasses and well-worn leather appear on the finish, like sinking into an armchair in the corner of your favorite pub.
In the spirit of 19th century barkeeps on Baker’s Street, Hoppin’ Frog made a special batch of black treacle (what we’d call molasses) just for this beer. Then, they aged Den Haag in bourbon barrels, for layers of smokey whiskey.
I can just picture Sherlock swirling this brew around in a goblet, before taking a satisfied swig. Afterwards, he’d inhale a puff from his pipe, smile broadly, and declare what we’re all thinking:
“By George! Hoppin’ Frog has done it!”
Rated a brilliant 4.31 on Untappd!
Hoppin’ Frog sits on stacks upon stacks of awards, including two medals at the 2021 GABF and three medals at the 2021 Australian International Beer Awards!
