Deadly Combination: Strata & Rakau
Barrier Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
If I had to guess why today’s uncannily smooth Hazy is called Deadly Combination, I’d say it’s because the blend of Strata Hops, Rakau Hops, and milk sugar is so delicious — and so dang good at hiding the 7.4% ABV — it’s dangerously easy to gulp down can after can!
Both Strata and Rakau are becoming increasingly popular in craft, and for good reason!
Strata, from the lush fields of Oregon, imparts beautiful layers of fresh tropical fruit, along with the pungent aromatics of high quality kush. Rakau is clean and efficient, lending flavors of plump, ripe stone fruits when used late in the brewing process.
Crack open a can, and indulge in the invigorating bouquet of freshly sliced grapefruit and earthy hash. Take a sip, and bathe your taste buds in a thirst quenching blend of mangoes, pineapples, apricots, and mixed berries.
The lucky locals who’ve tried Deadly Combination: Strata & Rakau are raving about its superb drinkability, saying:
- “Another outstanding offering from this series of two-hop beers. Exceptionally soft, creamy mouthfeel.” @Matthew J.
- “Awesome as expected. Surprisingly easy drinking.” @Simon W.

Never had Rakau hops, really good
Hazy pineapple hops
Citrus, creamy, juicy, pineapple. Definately a good beer i will buy again.
Crisp & mildly dank. This is a great IPA!
Best one I’ve had out of the crate. More citrus forward than tropical. Great mouthfeel with very nice carbonation. Light pine in there somewhere
Citrus forward and dank
Creamy, hoppy, delicious.
Just fine, nothing special though
Creamy buttery and velvety mouth feel
Solid brew. Hazy, citrus and a bit of dankness.
Very hoppy, but that’s how I like it.
Even after sitting a few weeks, this beer still held up nicely. Very citrus forward and delicious.
Awesome refreshing brew
Legit. Everything I’d want from a NE IPA. Juicy but balanced.
Pretty good. Not bad.
I like these wild hops
Wasnt a favorite. But was decent from what others I've tried.
I tasted more hops with this than berries, but altogether a good IPA.
4.44/5 look: 5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.75 | overall: 4.5 Poured from a 16 ounce can into an IPA glass. Look- Sudsy/frothy white head, dull pale gold, very hazy, extremely above average head retention, above average lacing. Smell- Passion fruit, earthy, mango, melon. Hazy juicy deliciousness
This is a very mild hop ipa.
Overwhelming amount of hazy mouthfeel.
Daily corona battle. Development is fun! edition. This is juicy, earthy first and peachy/mango second. Delightfully soft and rich.
Super interesting hop combo Beer pours ripe melon green with fluffy head Juicy in a different way. Finishes clean with touch o funk
This had floral character accompaniment to it that was a nice surprise to the body and “fruit” that dominated
This series never disappoints.
Soft and juicy with a hint of floral, and a little bite at the end.
