A Note on This Beer
Before 1700, smoky ‘Rauchbier’ dominated the Bavarian brewing scene. But, with the advent of new kilns that dried malt without smoke, those woodfired flavors practically disappeared from the beer world.
Today, you can experience the uber-traditional complexity of the classic Rauchbier style with a can of Crusher Destroyer Smoked Bock. It’s like sending your taste buds back in time to taste the origins of modern beer!
To make it, the Lager specialists and beer historians at Portland’s Wayfinder Brewing used Beechwood smoked Weyermann Malt, just like the brewmasters of old.
They also employed another all-but-forgotten brewing process called double decoction, where a portion of the mash is removed, boiled with very high heat, then added back to the main mash to create intensely malty flavors.
These traditional, labor-intensive techniques — combined with the GABF award-winning skills of Wayfinder Brewmaster, Kevin Davey — result in a beer that balances between earthy smoke, a bready body, and sweet, caramel-drenched malts. A truly traditional Bavarian-style brew!
If you want to experience beer the way it used to be — or you’re just a fan of all things smoky — grab a few cans of Crusher Destroyer and drink like an old-school Bavarian!

Nice smokiness to go with a BBQ.
The smoke flavor is distinct without being overpowering. Smooth sipping!
I am not a big bock lover but this is REALLY good. It makes me want to roast marshmallows. Super manly and the smoke is just right.
This is fantastic. Very balanced, malty with substantial smoke. It’s got a lovely finish that lingers for days
Texans loved smoked consumables, and I'm happy to add this to the list. Refreshing with good mouth-feel, but the smokiness is the hero. Too bad I wasn't grilling out tonight... but good thing I ordered two.
Really smoky but amazing!!
Very, very interesting beer. Can't say I've tried anything like this before. The smoke is unmistakable and grows on you.
Allow to warm slightly to gain the subtle smoky aromas. Upon first sip (straight from the fridge) it is a very nice lager. As it warms up more of the maltiness comes out, as do the rich, earthy smoke flavors. Almost crushable, but absolutely accessible. Don’t allow it to warm up too much. It becomes a bit mineral-like in flavor and the smoke aromas become more disruptive than complimenting. But that’s only if you really let it sit. I say enjoy it during the entire duration of a Mastodon album and you guarantee yourself a good time.
Definitely smokey but it reminds me of a smoked meat TOO much. The smell is like something molding as well. Not for me.
Smokey and smooth, definitely enjoyable on a cold night.
Like drinking a campfire
Great smoke without being overpowering
Absolutely loved it!!! Works totally get it again. This beer is the perfect example of a smoked beer done right. It's not stress to bring some smoke but not over-done in any way. I truly hope more smoked beers from this brewery come-up for sale
Incredibly smoky and rich, an quired taste but still very good.
Nice Carmel taste
First time trying a "smoked" beer. Very interesting. But not what I'm looking for.
perfect example of the style
New style for me but a big fan
This was delicious. Smoked flavor is there
Smokiness gets a little cloying
Love this style so delicious. Happy to have again !
I can appreciate the taste, but it isn’t for me
Pretty good smoke!
Lots of smoke. Like a nice scotch without the bite!
I’m a lover of smoked beer, and I’ve loved everything I’d had from Wayfinder before this, so I expected this to be a sure thing. Sadly, this beer is ridiculously sweet, and drinking a full can of this sticky, syrupy stuff is pretty hard to do.
Smoky and rich. Wonderful earthy taste
A sweet Smokey brew. Cheers.
nice and smoky, but still pretty easy drinking.
I absolutely loved the smoky flavor of this brew!!
Please bring this back! Hands down one of the best smoked beers I've had.
