A Note on This Beer
Unless you’ve been out to Long Island lately, you’ve never tasted a North Eastern White Ale. Today’s Classic from Barrier Brewing is the first one ever brewed, and it’s never left New York until today.
That’s right! You’ve got a chance to try a brand new style that’s just been created by the winner of this year’s Best Brews in New York contest! But what is it?
According to brewer Evan Klein from Barrier, a North Eastern White Ale is like a Belgian Wit (a wheat beer brewed with coriander and orange), but mellower on the spice and with a nuanced hint of american Hops.
Basically a smoother, more drinkable, craft version of Blue Moon with more juicy citrus because it’s brewed with a full pound of blood orange puree per gallon!
It’s bright and crazy crushable at 5% ABV, and it goes great with a burger and fries. In fact, Classic is so popular at the brewpub, Barrier is adding it to their core lineup. This is a Wit so drinkable and refreshing that NYC city dwellers are willing to ride the subway over an hour out to Rockaway Beach just to get a sip of its subtly spicy notes and sunny citrus flavor.
With the weather (finally!) getting nice again, we’re all in need of a slammable, refreshing, sunny day brew. Grab yourself a few cans of the beer that’s destined to become a Classic, and try the North Eastern White Ale before any of your buds have even heard of it.
