Separatist Beer Project
A Note on This Beer
- Nerd – Noun. A socially awkward person who excels in academics.
- Citra Nerd – Beer. An impeccably lush IPA hopped exclusively with Citra that excels in massive tropical citrus flavors.
In case you haven’t heard, beer nerds are cool now.
And, it doesn’t get more nerdy-cool than Separatist Beer Project. Instead of pocket protectors and high-waisted pants, juicy hopbombs like today’s Citra Nerd are their calling cards of beer-geek awesomeness.
In addition to boatloads of Citra Hops for juicy flavor, the Separatist crew used a brewers’ dream equation of Pilsner Malt, Oats, and German Wheat to give their IPA a smooth, fluffy mouthfeel.
The result is one beast of a brew that boasts massive flavors of Meyer lemon zest, mandarin orange juice, honeydew, and ruby red grapefruit.
The only thing cooler than having citrusy hopjuice like this stocked in the fridge is being able to say it comes from one of Hop Culture’s 15 Best Breweries to Watch. The beer nerds have spoken!

Tasty citrus notes!
Decent dank aroma, front palate is juicy. Finish is weak. Not bad, not great.
Fantastic beer for a beautiful summer day!
This is so delicately balanced. The notes of the citra hops are present first to last sip. Light melon and dank (not bitter) citrus... The mouthfeel is just right. Surprised to find the abv after I drank it - no sting at all. A great beer.
Hoppy, smooth and juicy. Quite refreshing.
Very smooth and refreshing love it
Smooth smooth and smooth, love this beer!!
I was hoping for better.
You had me at citra
Medium to full bodied with a strong pineapple finish make this citra IPA a little bit too sweet for my taste...
If you ever wondered & wanted to know what citra exactly tasted, this is it . Good stuff
Piney, resiny aroma. Smooth, tropical, fruity flavor with hints of mango, pine, & tangerine. Clean, bitter hoppy finish.
Somewhat unique flavor for an IPA, but unfortunately not what I was hoping for. Not a beer to seek out.
Nothing special. Citra is hard to do well these days cause everyone is doing it
Daily Corona battle. “Working” from home sucks edition. This is interesting. Silky smooth and soft, frothy mouthfeel. Sweeter and cushier than most IPA’s I’m used to, but crazy smooth and sweet, citrus/melon flavor. Crushable and juicy.
Aroma was pleasant, but flavor I found a bit lacking. A bit of juicy flavor at the front, but falls flat for what I was expecting after. Turns out there’s a reason most brewers use more than just Citra
Hops for days! Juicy aroma, juicy taste, creamy mouthfeel, juicy finish. I have been inducted into the Citra Nerd Fan Club!
