A Note on This Beer
How does the crew at Mountains Walking make their Schwarzbier so crushably smooth AND packed with roasty, dark chocolate flavor? They’ve got a few tricks up their sleeves!
Patience! The brewers cold conditioned this Dark Lager for a full two months, allowing it to become more crisp and clean with every passing day. It’s got all the toasty, coffee ‘n toffee flavors you want on a chilly day, and it’s crushable enough to keep you company through an all-afternoon Netflix binge.
Spunging! This process is so rare, you might think we just made the word up. Nope! Spunging is kind of like bottle conditioning, but instead of sealing the fermenting brew in a bottle, they seal the entire tank! That process naturally carbonates the whole batch at once, for crisp, effervescent bubbles and an ultra-smooth body. It’s almost TOO sippable!
Balance! Of course, the roasted malts in this brew need a little counterpoint to keep the flavors all-day drinkable, so the brewers added a carefully considered dose of Tettnanger Hops. These cones add earthy spice, a bit of floral character, and a touch of citrus for a finish you’ll want to come back to again and again.
The result is the best of both worlds — crisp enough for a Sunday football marathon, but flavorful enough to pair with fall favorites like beef stew and roasted veggies. With a fridge full of Chopping Wood: Schwarzbier, you’ll have your Autumn beer-drinking bases covered!
Porch Drinking calls Mountains Walking “trailblazers when it comes to brewing new and creative beers!”
