A Note on This Beer
After the holidays, I told myself I’d take a break from eating chocolate. But I never said anything about drinking chocolate. Today’s 13% ABV Cake or Death Imperial Stout from Verboten provides a delicious loophole: it’s a drinkable chocolate cake!
To maximize the fudgy-cake goodness, Verboten combines 10 pounds per barrel of 5 different types of chocolate to create a thick dessert beer that tastes like it was poured straight from a chocolate fountain. The brewery painstakingly sourced Belgian Chocolate Malt, Cholaca liquid cocoa nibs, and bittersweet cocoa husks from Fiji, Ghana and Honduras. Then they aged it to balance the sweet malts, bold booziness, and all of the rich, fudgy darkness until it was smooth as silk.
After tasting it, I feel confident in my ability to avoid eating any chocolate as long as I have some Cake or Death around. I’m stocking up on these bottles to help satisfy my choco-cravings throughout the winter. With a fridge full of this fudgy Stout, giving up something I love to eat has never been so easy.
*This is the first time Cake or Death has been bottled, so lucky Tavour members will be the first and only fans to try it outside of Colorado.
