A Note on This Beer
In New Orleans, Abita is as synonymous with flavor rich craft beer as Bourbon Street is with scandalous good times. Named in honor of the French Quarter’s most notorious corner, Abita Brewing’s Bourbon Street barrel aged series showcases the brewery’s take on the unique flavors of Louisiana.
The newest in the series, Bourbon Street Maple Pecan is a nut brown ale aged in bourbon barrels with pecans, maple syrup, and New Orleans’s revelry.
Abita begins with a robust malt base of Munich, Pale, Biscuit, and Caramel malts. Pure maple syrup and roasted Louisiana pecans are added to jazz up the malts, The ale cold ages for 6 weeks as the flavors blend into a creamy ribbon of flavors. For the next two months, Maple Pecan makes its home in bourbon barrels, soaking up oaky spice. The result is a whiskey-spiked slice of pecan pie in a pint glass.
Savory toasted nuttiness wrapped in caramelized maple sugar greets your tastebuds. Spiced pecans dance the Charleston with the warm booze-drenched wood notes of smooth small batch bourbon. With a sturdy 8.5% ABV, Maple Pecan is surprisingly delicate on its feet with a light mouthfeel and warm melted butter-drenched shortbread finish.
Bourbon Street Maple Pecan is the perfect taste-ambassador for New Orleans. A libation soaked in Southern culinary delights, we’re excited to make this our introduction to Abita and Louisiana beer.
