Blackberry Crumble a la Mode
Lil Beaver Brewery
A Note on This Beer
Every time my mom makes her famous cinnamon-sprinkled blackberry crumble, my family goes into full predator-mode.
What can I say? Whoever gets the first scoop gets the BEST scoop (a.k.a., the most-crumbly corner piece).
Lucky for me, I don’t need to race my siblings for a can of Lil Beaver’s opulent Blackberry Crumble a la Mode. I'm only competing with all you crumble-lovin’ craft fans!
The brewers pack each batch full of irresistibly fresh blackberries atop silky vanilla, milk sugar, and cinnamon. It tastes just like my mom’s berry delicacy, smothered in a cloud of whipped cream softer than a well-loved sweatshirt!
And odds are, this is your first chance to try a sip of this juice — unless you’ve visited central Illinois recently. Because founder and head brewer Chad Bevers only opened his taproom a few years ago.
The lil brewery is already making a big splash on the local scene thanks to nostalgically delicious brews like Blackberry a la Mode. The Illinois newspaper The Herald & Review even called them out as one of the best in the state!
So grab your cans, invite your family over, and enjoy some sumptuous Berry Crumble. Every can is full of equal amounts of berry-goodness, so, there’s no need to race for the ‘best’ one!

Wowzers! You can taste the blackberry, the cinnamon graham cracker crust, the vanilla ice cream! It's like someone took my grandmother's blackberry cobbler, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and put it in the blender. I swear I think I could drink this hot it is so good. One of the top 10 best beers I've ever had.
This was disgusting. I'm not one to drump drinks down the train, but after a swigs of this I did. I can't even really explain the flavor profile but certainly not what I was expecting. This was straight up gross.
Good, but definitely got a little too much baking spice on this one
I've seen some reviews where they might've gotten bad cans. Mine was perfectly fine though. Great strong blackberry taste with the cinammon and vanilla heightening it to the sweetness of a pie. Awesome experience for my first from Lil Beaver
It’s exactly what’s advertised. It tastes like blackberry preserves and cream, but if you want something that tastes like a beer instead you’ll be disappointed.
Very damn tasty so glad I ended up snagging these. Definitely trying some whipped cream on my last can. All the notes come together so nice and not overly sweet
Warm cinnamon forward with a slightly tart finish (according to my reviewing wife)
Based on everyone else’s reviews I’ll give it a 3, but I seem to be one of the sad few who got a bad can. Aftertaste like spoiled cool whip. Bummed as it seems like it should be otherwise delicious.
Fantastic taste, but a bit too intense for me for 16oz. Best shared.
Tastes exactly like a blackberry dessert.
This is AMAZING. It is a perfect desert drink. Thick, sweet, and so smooth. It literally tastes like a liquid blackberry pie, praise to the brewers for nailing this one!
Impressive and lives up to its name.
Absolutely delicious! Even my stout loving dad agreed. One of the best dessert beers I’ve ever had
Excellent flavor, nice and sweet like a dessert beer should be! 5 stars!
Literally taste like a blackberry vanilla pie, possibly the best thing I’ve ever tasted
Blackberry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Delicious.
Wow. Tastes just like blackberry pie in a glass
Can really taste cinnamon in this.
Cinnamon is very prevalent. Dessert in a can!
Lot of cinnamon and blackberry flavors
Very rich flavor with a thick texture. Tastes just like blackberry a la mode including the pie crust
I love how it tasted just like a dessert!
Exactly as described...lots of blackberry and vanilla up front with the purple crust taste on the back end
Tastes just like a blackberry pie would taste like. You can even taste a creaminess like it has whipped cream on top or a sugar glaze.
Really delicious. The addition of cinnamon is really what puts this beer over the top.
The first sip is the best, but that delicious blackberry crumble taste quickly turns to ale.
I liked the blueberry one better but this was still really good!
Wow! Really tasted like a blackberry crumble, glad I bought 2.
Tastes just like blackberry cobbler. Really good stuff!
Incredible foam adds to the cinnamon vanilla milk sugar taste. one of my favorites glad I got a few of these
Very good. Nice blackberry and cream flavor. Only thing is the taste changed about half way through. Not bad, but not the same that grabbed me at start. Great beer anyway! I think it has a great crust type after taste
Tastes as expected. Sweet and berry flavors
Sweet tasting and smooth. Nailed it
Cinnamon then a hard punch of blackberries
A little too sweet for my liking
Was very good strong Berry taste. To me there was a boozy taste but still amazing wish I had this in my area
Like a pie in can.
Very good! Compared to drekkers it’s very close!
Exactly as the description says. Like dessert in a can
Tasted more like grape soda to me.
This was delicious. Blackberry pie, tart and nice crust flavor. 1st time from Lil Beaver, would like to try more
I’m guessing the two I got went bad or something, based on everyone else’s rave reviews. Legit had the aftertaste of a particular type of vomit. Even after all that, I was able to finish them. Taste itself on the tongue wasn’t bad, maybe this is what people mean by “up front,” buuuut the second I exhale that throw up aftertaste was right there on the back of my tongue. Idk, had high hopes on this one but was disappointed. I gave them 3.5 and 2.5 on Untappd, but in writing this that puke taste is overwhelming in my memory (drank them a couple weeks ago), so had to mark it even lower here. Again, hoping mine just went bad somehow.
So damn yummy
Not at all what I expected. Cinnamon and vanilla hit the tongue weird
Too sweet for my taste
So good! My favorite beer from this app yet
Literally like drinking a pie.
Definitely blackberry pie in a can
Cinnamon Cream Artificial blackberry
Reminiscent of the holidays. Explosive cinnamon, great blackberry flavor. Huge fan.
Dessert in a can. It was amazing and wish I got more. You really taste the fruit.
Perfectly done. Slight tartness smoothed out by cinnamon and cream. Outstanding.
Heaven in a can! Amazing!
I thought this beer was friggin’ awesome. Graham crackers, cream, blackberries dredged in sugar. It prompted me to order a different beer from these guys and pine for more of this.
Nothing like tasting a beer that says it’s flavors in the name. This was a great beer.
My personal favorite. I hope they make another batch. Upfront berry with creamy vanilla cinnamon finished. In my opinion exquisite. Period.
What a tasty wheat ale, definitely blackberry forward.
Very fruity. Rite tasty.
Very good berry flavor and you can actually taste the a la mode finish.
Delicious smooth and very tasty
Amazing, please get more
Very smooth dessert drink. Couldn’t drink more than one because of the heaviness and sweetness, but it really does live up to the name. Awesome flavor, you’re in for a treat with this one.
Best beer I’ve ever had. Dessert in a can, it’s absolutely amazing.
Illinois fruited beer in the PNW! Got this one off from Tavour. Chilled and poured into an imperial pint glass. Look: Purple like blackberries. Small finger size head that dissipates quickly. Little lacing as we drank. Smell: Deep berry smell with notes of vanilla, cinnamon and malt. The cinnamon is subtle but once you know it is there you get it. Taste: Blackberry in the nose with a subtle acidic but nice berry sour following. Intense berry notes in the middle with vanilla and trailing notes of cinnamon. The malt is subtle but gives the pie character nicely fitting the berry sour, making this exactly as advertised (a slice of blackberry pie). After taste stays around for a while, so if you like blackberry pie, the post berry-mash is nice. Feel: Acidic/sour front end, a tickle of carbonation lasting, somewhat full mouthfeel with no real fruit thickness like some breweries do with this type of beer. Man for a fruited beer this is yumstown. Exactly as advertised, blackberry a la mode. The lactose adds to the thickness and accents the vanilla. The berry notes fit well with the cinnamon and vanilla. They suggest adding a bit of whipped cream for the full pie flavor but that was just weird for me. Cheers!
The name is the perfect description. I really enjoyed the hints of cinnamon, and how smooth this beer is. Great beer!!
It's everything I love about a fruited sour... Without the sour. I've had blueberry beers, other berry beers, etc, and they all taste like fake fruit... NOT THIS BEER! It explodes with real blackberry flavor, awesome vanilla and cinnamon notes. It was delicious on a winter evening, bet its a killer on a hot summer day.
It's PACKED with flavor! It hits every single flavor note advertised. It really feels like I'm eating a blackberry pie with whipped cream or ice cream. I'm really really impressed.
Tastes like blueberry cobbler and a very forward cream flavor
Like eating a handful of fresh blackberries. Delicious!
Pretty great stuff definitely tastes like blackberry pie, aftertaste was a bit odd but otherwise awesome
Fantastic. Literally tastes like eating a bowl of blackberry crumble with ice cream. Perfectly balanced.
Delicious. Dessert in a cup.
Wow! The Blueberry was amazing but this Blackberry is Just like a fresh made pie! Perfection!! I may try and make a Blackberry Crumble float with some ice cream next time. Lil Beaver won another word of mouth advertising fan.
I work in the pie industry, so I know my pies, Lil Beaver has nailed it!! Omg, for liquid form, this is as close as it gets to blackberry crumb a la mode in a Can! Fantastic!! The blackberry flavor really comes thru followed by the "crust" and then the cream. The amroma alone gave it away that this was going to be great! I'll surely be keeping an eye out for this brew to come around again so I can stock up!
Never was a fan of “dessert beers” - this was delicious!!! I had both, the same night I tried it. Went very well with Pizza dinner!
Great Blackberry flavor, not too sweet and awesome crumble flavor on the backend.
It quite literally tastes like a fresh baked blackberry pie with whipped cream on top. It’s absolutely incredible. Glad I got two, sad I only bought two....
Dessert in a can just like grandma Mamie’s blackberry cobbler. Wow
tastes just like a pie. awesome
very light tasting, needs a tab bit more thickness and full flavor of the fruits
