A Note on This Beer
Beers are great at bringing people together — at Tavour, we know this well. But we’ve never seen a beer with the kind of impact that this sumptuous Russian Imperial Stout has!
Today’s beer is the original Black is Beautiful brew, which has now been recreated and served up by more than 1,000 breweries nationwide!
And why wouldn’t it be? It has everything a Stout drinker wants: roasty, dark malts in each warming sip, balancing bittersweet chocolate and espresso notes throughout, and a touch of sweetness on the finish. It's like the smoothest, richest mocha from a fancy cafe — don't forget to drink with your pinky up!
Of course, it’s not just about the delectable sips. Drinking this beer also supports the Black is Beautiful Initiative’s collective mission: “to provide a platform to show that the brewing community is an inclusive place for everyone of any color.”
When you drink this roasty Stout, you’re raising a glass with breweries and craft lovers to support positive change!

Very smooth stout beer. Freemont is amazing area in Seattle and great beer as well. Worth the try if you are a stout lover
Very good, but lacks excitement
Burnt coffee and not much else
Bitter dark roast coffee notes dominate the palate; still great though!
A solid, four star stout. Doesn't have the adjuncts and doesn't need them.
A little bland in all honesty
Very solid Imperial Stout!
Wow! Tastes like 86% cocoa
Standard Stout. Nothing crazy
A great classic stout.
Solid. Wish I had more.
Good, but not as good as others.
Classic stout. Chocolate, Char, semi sweet,
A fine classic stout that pushes all the right buttons
A good solid Stout not very remarkable other than a very nice caramel malt backbone.
Great tasting and solid stout.
My favorite of the series I’ve tried.
Great beer and a great cause.
Smooth, malty, toasty deliciousness.
That's a good one
One of the better Black is beautiful stouts but definitely not one of the best stouts ever made.
I guess I just expected something more from the world famous Fremont. There are two or three other variations of this that I think I liked better, including hardywood’s coffee forward version
Roasty and chocolatey stout
Simple but good
Wow! Fantastic to-spec old school imperial stout. I miss old school style brews like this that don’t need additional flavors. Huge dark malt presence with piney cascade hop flavor and enough bitterness for balance. Full, smooth mouthfeeel. Gentle warmth.
Someone said it best in another review - solid old-school Stout. The roasted flavors from the coffee and subtle chocolate notes blend together nicely. Well done imperial stout for an even better cause. Black is, indeed, beautiful.
Very lovely traditional stout, smooth, with a nice lingering roasted coffee flavor. Enjoyed it.
Not a fan. Was pretty flat.
Mocha-y with some bitter coffee. Great nose! Doesn’t taste like 8.6.
Love the support, love the beer. Wasn’t too strong, and the flavor was amazing. Made me think of Oreo Os Cereal, which I happen to love
Lingering chocolate notes from the cacao nibs give a strong impression of hot cocoa with the vanilla bean enhancing the sensation of marshmallow. Sweetness is balanced by the coffee bitterness.
It's delicious. Sips smooth as a porter with the hefty stout apv. Chocolate. Coffee. Delicious!
This is a good 8oz poor very rich and filled with flavor, for those who like their beer heavy. I love heavy beers but comparatively, to other BIB beers, I’ve had more complexed with a heavier flavor profile.
I may have had a bad can, but this tasted sour
Ok but not exciting. Straight ahead stout, mild hop, dry. Relatively fizzy. Goes well with steak.
Beer is great!! To bad it has that name!!
Uber dark and roasty. Delicious.
It was okay, very roasty. Not sweet at all for being a milk stout. Would not buy again.
Smooth, roasty coffee
Had better from this series, but this is far from the worst
Absolutely delicious! Hints of chocolate. Perfect body. Just enough sweet, just enough bitter. Love it! Glad I have another.
Everything you would expect from a stout. Dark and full, have to admit though. This one snuck up on me after maybe one other beer, so be careful!! lol
I really appreciate the body and mouthfeel for 8.6%. Chewy stout but pretty bitter in a black coffee sense which I’m cool with cause it’s a coffee stout. The vanilla rounds it out some on the end but wish there was more. Overall, very enjoyable.
Dark, toasty and rich with dark chocolate.
SOLID RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT! I would definitely purchase again and enjoy it just the same!
I'm one of the few that drink dark year round. This was a welcome shift from DIPA and other trends. Coffee, malt, chocolate
Very nice addition, super roasty, plus goes to a good cause!
Nothing unique but tasty
Everything you’d want in an Imperial Stout. BLM
The dark toasty notes are there and those are very pleasant but I was expecting more complexity from Fremont here. Was more like a porter than a stout in my opinion. I appreciate them trying to keep it simple but it was a little too simple. Still decent, though.
Kinda eh by its self. But added a shot of Rumchatta. Ultimate drink
Outstanding stout and a great cause. Wonderful flavor that wasn't too sweet.
A little thin, touch of green from the coffee, but overall a solid stout.
Really disappointed with how overly sweet and vanilla heavy this Brew was. I tasted this alongside the Firestone Walker and Fremont version and this was by far the worst.
Bold and thick and smooth. Wonderful blend of flavors. Vanilla and chocolate opening and a delicious coffee finish.
This is what I've come to expect from Fremont. Am excellent barebones imperial stout.
Probably the best version I've had of this beer. More like a Russian imperial I think.
Really simple but delicious stout
thinner than some of the better BiB but still nice.
This brewery is EVERYTHING! Nevermind great beers, but supporting causes that actually make a difference in the world. 5 stars all around.
Pretty damn good
Rich and delicious
unlike the photo, was thinly carbonated, not much head. was syrupy, strong perhaps I got a bad batch
dark and creamy.
not great, feels sparkly and not deep enough, not strong flavor
One of the worst beers I have tasted…or else I got a bad batch. Really sour and horrible taste…had to throw it out..never done that with another beer.
