Stone Brewing had an oatmeal-bourbon vision. When they brewed a special 20th anniversary batch of their dark beer treasure Bitter Chocolate Stout, they set a small portion of the batch aside, aging it in Kentucky Bourbon barrels. For 7 months, this dark chocolate-fortified beast soaked up bourbon spice and oaky vanilla notes before Stone released it to eagerly waiting fans.
Meet Bitter Chocolate Oakmeal Bourbon Barrel Stout, a maelstrom of cocoa nibs and woody smokiness, wrapped in a boozy 11.4% ABV velvety Oatmeal Stout.
Starless-night black, Oakmeal beckons you with a swirling aroma of espresso, tobacco and cacao nibs. The flavor is reminiscent of sipping chocolate spiked with whiskey, balanced with smooth additions of flaked oats. Stone uses unsweetened chocolate in the boil, creating the decadent flavor and giving a bitter flush to the back end. A final kick of bourbon heat finishes the revelry of dark beer flavors.
This beer is newly released, but it’s already garnering phenomenal ratings. Oakmeal was built to cellar, but it’s a delicious pool of chocolate and whiskey to slip your tastebuds into now. Just be sure to stash away one of these caged and corked treasures because there’s no telling if or when Stone will unleash this beast on the world once more.
