A Note on This Beer
Today’s dark brew deserves to be on the cover of the Best of Oregon magazine: Stout edition. It features the sweet and tangy fruit the state is best known for (blackberries) and injects them into one of the most highly decorated Stouts (6 GABFs!) in the entire beer-crazy state.
Using the prowess that earned them 46 GABF medals, Pelican Brewing makes blackberries shine in their bittersweet dark chocolate-dipped Berried At Sea Imperial Stout.
Talk about a dark beer destined for greatness, 6 of Pelican’s GABF’s were won for Tsunami Stout, the base beer used in Berried At Sea. When the brewery adds blackberries and currants, it gives the beer the complexity of a fine red wine.
Berried at Sea Pours a purple tinged black with a vibrant violet head. Inhale trade winds of chocolate malts and subtle dark fruits. Your palate is entertained by blackberry bon bon guests who just arrived from the patisserie. The finish is roasty with a cacao-like dryness that doesn’t let you forget that what you’re drinking, is in fact, an Imperial Stout.
