A Note on This Beer
Today’s Belgian Strong Dark Ale won Beer of the Year from Oregon’s beloved Willamette Week, took Double Gold from SIP Northwest, AND won Gold at the Best of Craft Beer Awards.
Which is no surprise coming from pFriem Family Brewers, the Beer Connoisseur’s Best Brewery in the World. To make this one, the celebrated crew started with a base featuring dark malts and Belgian candi sugar, then added Tettnang, Perle, and Huell Melon Hops.
We haven’t managed to get our hands on a stash since waaaaaay back in 2021, when Tavoursters called it an “excellent Belgian” with “intricate complexities of dark spices and dark fruits.”
Even the beer geeks at PorchDrinking.com couldn’t get enough of its “notes of heavy fig and cherry dipped in maltiness,” that give way to “raisin, jam and semi sweet chocolate.” It’s like a fudge-drizzled Newton bar with a bit of toffee on top, and no sign of that big 10% ABV anywhere.
Why does pFriem have a reputation for flawlessly executing so many styles? Grab a bottle or two of this Belgian-style beauty and you can find out for yourself!
Tavour strictly supports independent beer. pFriem Beer is certified independent by the Brewers Association
