Beer Geek Vanilla Shake Barrel-Aged Bourbon
Mikkeller Brewing San Diego
A Note on This Beer
The Beer Geek series put Mikkeller on the map.
And, not just any map — the 2X Danish Brewery of the Year has been named one of the Most Important Breweries from Europe by Food & Wine, and their brews rank among the best in their class on BeerAdvocate!
Like today’s Beer Geek Vanilla Shake, which craft fans gave a world-class 96/100 score.
Let a few sips linger on the tongue to fully grasp all the flavors at play in this massive Imperial Stout. Mikkeller brews it with coffee and vanilla!
Big milk chocolate and silky vanilla greet the palate upfront, followed by deep layers of roasty espresso and caramel. A dose of lactose keeps the brew succulently creamy from start to finish, making that 11% ABV sip down almost too smoothly.
As @Matthew W. on Untappd says, this beer is “Quite unlike anything else - very special.”
Rated 96/100 on BeerAdvocate; 4.19 on Untappd

Definitely one of the best stouts I've had.
Mikkeller was the brewery that got me hooked on craft beer! This is amazing
Mikkeller brewing was what turned me into a craft beer snob. This is a amazing
A fun to drink Imperial Stout. Coffee profile was minimal, the sweet roast and vanilla were the stand outs.
So smooth, I want more.
Good mouthfeel, just right sweetness
Well balanced sweetness with roast flavors. Very tasty.
Decent flavor, thick beer.
Not as much coffee as I thought there would be
Green pepper city
This was fantastic. The mouth feel is velvety living up to the shake name. The vanilla is just right. Coffee flavor was more subtle. But all in all a really good Stout.
This is nothing short of delicious. Dripping with vanilla and caramel, this chocolatey concoction is a real treat. If you focus on the espresso flavor, it can be found near the end of the lingering flavor this beverage leaves behind. The mouth feel is luxurious, which compliments this bold and sweet brew beautifully. If I could rate it higher, I would!
Very tasty, a little sweet but i was expecting that. I would buy it again. 11% - weeeeeeee!
Great vanilla stout. Heavy vanilla on the front with touch of coffee. Can’t wait to try the BA version.
Was absolutely amazing!! The taste was fantastic. I can’t wait to have the second one!!
More stout than vanilla shake, also weird smell
All my favorite things in one beer!!! Chocolate, vanilla, espresso & caramel...Omg...Thick and creamy, & drinks sooo smooth, I’m in heaven! (wish I had more) My delicious brew was “born on 12/09/2019”. SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!!
Just the right amount of vanilla to pull all of the flavors together.
This Boozy shake was just a bit too boozy for my tastes. Although once I cut it with my Starbucks Toffee Nut Coffee Creamer I was back in business!
Not much coffee but was a good beer
Love the bourbon barrel aged edition of this beer. This is a delicious, boozy vanilla milkshake. What more can you ask for?
Thick mouthfeel but not surupy, great vanilla flavor with just a hint of burn, not a lot for a 13.4 ABV. Smooth.
Barrel up front. Boozy. Kind of harsh imitation vanilla flavor.
Outstanding stout, it has a bitterness but still really good.
Better than org. Version
So much vanilla goodness. Huge fan.
Great after dinner stout. Sweet for sure.
Boozy, charred barrel, ashy coffee, tobacco leaves, baker’s chocolate, with vanilla on the finish.
Nice breakfast stout...sweet chocolate coffee. Needs a lot more vanilla for the name though. Somewhere between a 4 and 4.25
If I could give it more stars I would
Wow, that's nice. A bit chocolate-y, but sweet. This is something to buy again
Super great balance. Not too sweet. Really good.
Dark and rich, but doesn't compare to some of my favorite stouts
Tasty. Mouthfeel a little thin but overall the flavors shine , subtle vanilla overall.
Thick, sweet, syrupy. Not much head, flavors stick to pallet
Chocolate and vanilla and 11% ABV with an espresso finish: delish!
a powerful blend of vanilla and roastiness.
