A Note on This Beer
The best dessert I ever had was Tiramisu at a tiny, dimly lit cafe in Milan. It was the fluffiest, most delectable dark chocolate-vanilla-latte cake I’d ever tasted.
When I got home from my trip, I dreamt of that Tiramisu. When I found myself at a business dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, there was no question what I was getting for dessert! But it was a bust: the Factory’s interpretation was so dry it crumbled and the coffee they used tasted like what they serve at the DMV.
Then I had the brilliant idea of making it myself. Finding ladyfingers was a downright hassle. Buying good espresso and coffee liqueur was expensive. And because I’m next to useless in the kitchen, the end result was like an old sponge that was used to clean out a French Press.
I’d about given up: there was no way I was going to find that authentic Tiramisu flavor unless I went back to Italy. But then my craft-obsessed buddy told me about Taxman’s Bean Counter Brown Ale made with Nicaraguan coffee, Ghana cocoa nibs, and Mexican vanilla beans.
The ingredients alone piqued my interest, and then I found out it was Ranked in the Top 10 of its Style on BeerAdvocate! I had to give it a shot.
When the first drop of Bean Counter hit my taste buds, I was right back in that Italian cafe. The rich, smooth flavors of the Brown Ale hold up the holy trinity of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla dessert flavors. Hints of caramel enhance the espresso potency. The vanilla smooths any semblance of bitterness and blankets the 7.8% ABV with a velvety finish.
I don’t seek out Tiramisu anymore, I just keep a mini fridge dedicated to Bean Counter. I won’t trust anyone but Taxman with my insatiable dessert cravings outside of Italy — they made my Tiramisu dreams come Tirami-true!
