A Note on This Beer
Avery Brewing’s Amicitia Wine Barrel-Aged Sour Ale will fool your tastebuds into thinking you’re sipping on an expensive glass of red wine. Even one of our writers said she’d trade in her favorite Cabernet for a glass of this brand new release, just like the dozens of fans who’ve already rated it 4.27 on Untappd.
Avery loves CabSav too, and they’ve dedicated a third of their barrels to the beloved varietal (practically making them honorary vintners!). For their Amicitia, they’ve sourced their barrels directly from Larkmead and Chateau Montelena vineyards for rich, dark berry and peppery notes.
Swirl a glass of Amicitia to release rustic oak and wild raspberry aromas. Each sip will plunge you deeper into a vinous exploration of Cabernet Sauvignon’s dark cherry and currant flavors married to the tangy citrus from Brettanomyces and Lactobacillus. Subtle pepper and jammy red grapes swim across the palate, with its boozy 8.2% ABV deceptively slipping by under prominent notes of dusty lemon and oaky tannins. This nuanced sipping experience ends with a dry, grape skin finish.
Avery fuels their GABF-winning innovation through their barrel program, and with Amicitia, they’ve come as close as possible to making wine for Sour fans without makingactualred wine. Break out the wine glasses for this one -- with only 1,492 cases in existence, this is a Sour gem to be cherished.
