A Note on This Beer
Holland is known for two things: windmills and massive Dessert Stouts. Oh, and wooden shoes. And canals and dikes and Vincent Van Gogh.
Okay, Holland is known for lots of stuff. But after trying today’s 12% ABV Bourbon Barrel-Aged Caramel Fudge Stout, all you’ll think of is massive, chewy, ooey-gooey Dark Beers.
The Stout masters at Brouwerij Kees age this brew in barrels from the award-winning Woodford Reserve, imparting notes of oak, vanilla, and warming whiskey that balance huge additions of rich caramel and pure cocoa.
Let your U.S. craft buddies try it, and they’ll be blown away that a Stout this decadent came from across the Atlantic. And if you know any Euro beer geeks, they’ll be impressed that you managed to get it at all because usually this 4.24 UT-rated brew can’t be found stateside.
If you really want to blow your buddy’s minds, drop a scoop of vanilla ice cream in their pint. Trust us, it’s delicious. As soon as you crack the can you’ll understand.
BeerAdvocate user @craftbeersweden said it best:
“That nose! I could stay here forever! Caramel, fudge, Bourbon, vanilla, molasses, brown sugar, syrup, whipped cream, cookies, chocolate, cocoa beans, butterscotch and coffee. This is a masterpiece!”
That’s not even an exaggeration. It’s almost like Brouwerij Kees took all the confectionary expertise of Europe, soaked it in good ol’ American Bourbon, and crammed it into a can!
This summer, invite your friends over for a BBQ, and when it comes time for dessert, forget the brownies and cake. Serve your buds a sip of BA Caramel Fudge Stout and watch the smiles spread across their faces as they sip a masterpiece that stands up to any Rembrandt or Van Gogh.
