Perennial Artisan Ales
A Note on This Beer
Draft Magazine’s discerning critics call today’s Abraxas “damn near perfect.”
And fans can’t get enough of this luscious 11.5% ABV Imperial Stout — they give it a near-perfect 99/100 BA score and stellar 4.42 UT rating:
- “This just made my list of permanents! Pours a dark brown with two fingers of mocha head.” @JBowenGeorgia, BeerAdvocate
- “My absolute favorite stout. Another year and another stunner. 6 out of 5 [stars]” @Bobby B., Untappd
- “Wow! This one needs a permanent space in my fridge for special occasions!” @Steve L., Untappd
Heck, every year, St. Louis fans line up hours before the multi-GABF medalists at Perennial Artisan Ales open their doors just to snag a bottle before it sells out!
Which makes total sense. Brewed with real ancho chiles, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, and cinnamon sticks, Abraxas is thick with sticky waves of nonstop cocoa flavor and a hint of smoked chili to complement the deep Oatmeal Stout base. It’s smooth with a roasty backbone and oh-so-warming from palate to toe.
And I’ll be straight with you — the next time Perennial releases this beauty won’t be until next winter. Grab your bottle now and find out what “damn near perfect” really tastes like.

Love it, will definitely buy again.
One of my cavorites
This is great. Love how thick and substantial it feels, and the balanced flavor.
Probably the most overrated beer I’ve ever had. Oh wait, no, that goes to the BA version of this beer.
So good. Spicy. Delicious. Smooth.
Fantastic mouth feel
Was once something to seek. Now, with all other great offerings similar in flavor profile out there, this is just run of the mill. Still hoping to get my hands on the bba version.
Amazing as always.
Full bodied and balanced for the style
Chocolatey and sweet up front, followed by burnt oak and malt, then settles into vanilla and a hint of spicey pepper for the win. Layers of awesome.
Nice rich stout. Can’t wait to try it again!
Great. Would buy again
Rich, viscous, full bodied, super tasty world class stout.
Always good. Like drinking a gingerbread cookie. Thank Tavour for the three pack option with Coffee and Vanilla at a decent price.
Big body and thick mouthfeel. Just the right amount of heat from the chiles that is perfectly balanced out by the coffee and chocolate
Smells like a cinnamon roll
Well balanced but somewhat underwhelming
One of the best beers on the planet!
First time I had this was at a cafe in Belgium, I loved it then, I love it now.
This is a great stout. Strong coffee notes
So well balanced in flavor and mouthfeel, an all time great!
Oldie but goodie
The OG. Wonderful coffee and chocolate notes. Smooth as can be.
I don’f normally like pastry stouts but I really enjoyed this one.
Cinnamon bomb, beautiful mouthfeel
Never been a fan of peppers but great viscosity and mouthfeel
This is a great dessert beer that I have been buying for over five years. The base imperial stout is excellent. The cinnamon, vanilla cocoa nibs, and chili peppers are well balanced and the chili peppers do not stand out on this beer. I really enjoy this beer and have several in the cellar.
I can only dream what the BA version of this must taste like.
So good. Great cinnamon and vanilla flavors.
Dusty dry and other off notes
Lots of cinnamon. Chili is well balanced
Never felt like this was as good as it was supposed to be. Solid imperial stout, but the absence of coffee has always puzzled me.
So smooth. When chilled the cinnamon and chili are prominent but then fade as the beer warms. Liking this better than the coffee abraxas of the same year, slow sipping beer that’s a great way to finish a summer day. Chocolate on palette with cinnamon being most prevalent early. Cacao nose when warmed up. This is a reminder that serving temps should be shared with the beer; fine to a be a range. It’s enjoyable to have the beer evolve as temp rises. But I don’t get enough of these to be able to experiment with serving temps and aging length.
Used to love but too much cinnamon
Would love to get the BA version
Cinnamon. Don't need to say more
Solid beer. This year's version was much better than previous years with mellow spice
an all time favorite mexican hot chocolate
Strong notes of chocolate, cinnamon, and mildly chili.
would be better without lactose
OG Mexican chocolate stout
