Almanac Beer Company
A Note on This Beer
Almanac Beer Co. is leading the dry hop Sour beer trend with their Farm to Barrel Single Hop Series. Each installment receives overwhelming praise from the community and the question now becomes, how will they surpass what they’ve already created?
The answer – Dry Hopped Wakatu Sour. This 7% ABV wine barrel aged melony-fresh waterfall is full of tartness, demonstrating a Sour’s best friend might just be New Zealand hops.
All Kiwi hops shine with a mesmerizing fruit halo and a moderate bitterness that benefits the Sour’s natural vibrancy – but the intricate character of the Wakatu Hop has its own special glow.
A dual purpose hop, Wakatu unleashes immense aromatic and flavor power. Along with doses of pineapple and honeydew, its distinct presence of myrcene oil generates plump notes of lime that bring added flourish to the beer’s Sour Blonde base. Now just imagine this tart bounty spun with the vinous stamp of wine barrels.
If you’ve been following this series with bated breath like the rest of us Sour fans, don’t miss this radical yet incredibly accessible release. It’s the least bitter and most fruity version so far. And if you’re brand new to Almanac’s Single Hop Sour opus, Wakatu is a hell of an entry point.
