A Note on This Beer
Most people overlook Oklahoma as a hotspot of beer craft. Most people are in for a surprise.
Oklahoma’s Prairie Artisan Ales recently gained international recognition for their cutting edge Saisons and barrel-aged ales. Their success has landed them collaborations with some of our favorite breweries - Mikkeller, Brewfist, and now with Toccalmatto.
For their Okie Matilde Belgian Pale Ale, Prairie employs the services of hop centric Italian master brewers at Toccalmatto. Together they forge a phenomenal Brettanomyces-spiked Pale Ale in which wild yeasts and bright, lemony hops go hand in hand.
Okie Matilde is a very exciting collaboration because you can actually taste the impacts of both breweries. Prairie makes the pale malts pop in a fresh, rustic way with farmhouse yeast. Based in Parma, Italy, a gourmet food capital of the world, Toccalmatto has the flavor know-how to add a whole new dimension to the bright, citrusy hops.
Okie Matilde pours a luminous hazy gold with an insuppressible, massive foamy head. Aromas reveal bright floral lemons and light, lactic tang. Nectarous peaches, hay and the bitter of grapefruit peel give way to a fresh woody finish.
It’s unlikely Oklahoma dominate the world with every one of their beer exports. But as long as Prairie keeps providing us with worldly, masterful beverages on the level of Okie Matilde, we'll sing their praise.
