Tart Berliner Weisse
Champion Brewing Company
A Note on This Beer
Ask any brewer: making a distinctive light beer is one of the most difficult challenges in craft beer.
Plenty of breweries have mastered barrel-soaked behemoths or hop-powered ales, but not many can match the low ABV, high flavor talents of Champion Brewing.
With a GABF Gold for their Bohemian Pilsner, Champion has proven they have what it takes to create a true refresher. Now they bring their focus to the Berliner Weisse to fashion a refined, yet accessible Sour Ale named Tart.
Tart has just the right amount of quenching acidity. It is not overly sour and we could easily keep drinking until the whole six-pack is gone!
Glowing like a white wine, Tart’s aromas perpetuate a vinous character. White grape juice, slight yogurt, and lemons fill its airspace. It tastes of green apples and slight sourdough with a hint of spicy grain. It’s a super-clean sour, with no vinegar notes whatsoever. The mouthfeel is sheer with mild carbonation and citric acidity hitting that refreshing spot between pristine clarity and puckering sour.
With refined subtlety, Tart would stand out even in the crowded summer line up of Berliner Weisses. Now, late in the fall, it stands out even more as possibly the only source of this quenching style for months to come.
