Sour Batch TIKI
Garvies Point Brewery
A Note on This Beer
If you create a beer brimming with pink guava, mango, and passionfruit — and then infuse it with super tropical hops to boost the juiciness to unimaginable levels — you’ve basically built a beacon for fruit-lovin’ beer geeks.
To put it simply, in the case of today’s Sour Batch Tiki: if you brew it, nerds will come.
And that’s exactly what happened to Garvies Point. In fact, hordes of local craft fans were so voracious about fruity Sours like today’s, the Long Island Brewery had no choice but to triple their output to keep up with demand!
Even that expansion wasn’t enough, which is why we’re stoked to nab a fraction of Sour Batch Tiki’s criminally small 80-case run! Sorry, NY beer nerds — we just had to give Tavour members a chance at this irresistible fruitfest, and a chance to be the first out-of-state beer lovers to support Garvies Point.
One taste and you’ll instantly feel like you’re at a swim-up bar drinking tropical nectar out of a hollowed out coconut. Mellow tartness from kettle souring brightens each sip, but it’s the musky pink guava, sticky-sweet mango, and tangy passionfruit that take center stage. As if Sour Batch Tiki couldn’t get any fruitier, Kohatu Hops add pineapple notes while Citra brings even more passionfruit.
This nano-batch Sour Ale’s immutable juiciness is a great example of why New York craft fans are freaking out about Garvies Point. We have a feeling the only reason they’re not a national hit is because their beer doesn’t cross state lines — but hey, who knows? Maybe once they discover the droves of fruit-obsessed beer geeks on Tavour, they’ll triple production yet again! (We can dream, right?)
